Black in baby posset

This evening my 13 week old son bought up a little black granule looking substance in baby sicky posset, looked a little like soil or filter coffee. Only once and total amount of black stuff in the usual curdled milk was about a thumb nail. Otherwise feeding, nappies, temp, mood, sleep all normal. Doctor via 111 not concerned. Said sometimes a slight irritation in tummy can cause a little bleed. Baby is exclusively breastfed. Feeds well, no known allergies. Has asked that I call GP and paediatric dept tmrw to discuss. In case in makes a difference, my son has Downs Syndrome, but doesn’t currently have any health problems we’re aware of. Anyone had experience of this before?

To be honest, no I haven't. But if you're going to be up speaking to the GP in the morning and baby is asleep, can you try to get some sleep yourself?
I've been there with the exhaustion and it's terrible.

I don't suppose you took a picture did you OP?

A baby with coffee ground vomit should be seen by a professional OP, preferably with pictures or a sample of the vomit.

You mention you exclusively breastfeed, do you have cracked or bleeding nipples at all?

No I didn’t take a photo, most of it went on my dark coloured top. No checked, it’s not me.

Have you spoken to/seen GP? Has it happened any more?

BuckleberryFerry9 · 08/09/2020 12:34

Yes seen GP this morning. Fully checked over, he wasn’t concerned. He said it could have been the tiniest bit of blood from his nose when he sneezed, that he swallowed etc, or from his tummy, small capillary popping. All ok though. Thanks

Glad you saw someone and they reassure you. Generally, Coffee ground vomits should always be checked out 🙂
