I’m self emplpyed and have really inconsistent income, on the application one of the questions is do you expect to earn £139.52 a week for the next 3 months, I put yes but I don’t know if I will, might be more some weeks might be less others. I got issued a code does that mean that’s all approved, how do they check up on income? My next 3 months income and then the next ones after that won’t be registered to hmrc until January 2022 (the latest) if someone can explain a bit more how it works with unknown self employed income that would be great. Thanks

It all goes on your national insurance number I’m not sure how they will check this if you haven’t done your tax return but with the code you should be covered for this term at least

I’m up to date with tax returns, so on the application I put down my national insurance number and I got a code straight away, so does that mean it’s all been checked and been approved already as I’m really not sure I’d average the required amount. Or do you think they’d look more into it if I actually went to use the code? I don’t need the childcare for a while I just did the application to see if it was approved

If you’ve got a code it’s been approved

If you got a code it's approved.

You have to reapply every 3 months though...

Thankyou @PotteringAlong @pastabest @Dspx so sounds like if I have my code it’s been approved I just find the question “Do you expect to earn £139.52 a week for the next 3 months?” a bit vague as what if I don’t earn that much (my work very unpredictable and up and down) and my earnings from now won’t be reported to hmrc until I submit my tax return with a deadline of Jan 22 which is ages away, sorry if I’m rambling, I’m just new to it and I don’t want to be getting it if I’m not fully eligible by not actually ending up earning enough

Also another question about it, what happens in a few months when I will be stopping my self employed work and getting maternity allowance, will that affect it?

No, I got codes for my maternity leave even when in the no money period
