Almost crashed the car driving 7 yr old DD to school this morning as she reveals that a girl at school has told her that babies are made by...[ what followed was almost accurate but not quite the right geography....... Confused]. I explained as best I could whilst trying to navigate London streets in rush hour...

However I'm thinking I need a book that is more biological to explain in a way she will understand - I'm clearly going to have to bring her little brother in on this too (he's 5). Any recommendations? Thank you!

Wow, I’d recommend a conversation sooner rather than later! At 7, they’ll be hearing all sorts of things from other kids, especially those with older brothers and sisters, or whose parents are expecting. There are hundreds of books to deal with this issue. Personally I’d recommend any of the Usborne ones (they have various, suitable for different ages).

Seriously though, talk to them soon, and try not to be squeamish. I’m a teacher, and the statistics we get in training about when children are first exposed to pornography, what kids under 10 think normal sex is like etc.... it’s terrifying. You need to get some honest, basic understanding in before they get exposed to all that. They also NEED to know that it is totally normal to talk to you about sex, otherwise they won’t feel comfortable asking questions when they are teenagers. They onyl become comfortable because you have talked to them plenty and are comfortable doing so.

@crazychemist - for sure - I need to cover this topic ASAP! We had a super relaxed discussion - she didn't seem overly concerned and have always talked about everything else very naturally. She found it more amusing than anything else... this will no doubt be a discussion I will remember more than she will!
