Bike or trike?

for the last couple of weeks DD1 (who's 2.5)has been telling us "I want a bike and a bike hat".

DH and I both figure its about time she got something along those lines, but we don't know exactly what to get her.

I've heard that alot of trikes can be hard to pedal, and certainly the ones with 'parent handles' look like they wouldn't get far on toddler power alone.

But then is she too young for a bike with stabilisers?

Or what about a balance bike?

She's really interested in the 'big kids' in our street who have proper bikes but she is only 2 and a half so I don't want to get her something she can't ride on.

so what should we get her????

Any help much appreciated!

ds is 3 in Nov and has always had a trike with a pushalong handle.

He needs the next stage which is a 12" bike now with stabilisers. £59.99 at Halfords and they will show you which one is right for her. and they are so cute!!

where do you live? We will get rid of our trike so you are welcome to it if you arent far away so she can try that for a bit!

dd loves her balance bike. i would really recommend it.

These bikes are supposed to be suitable from 18 months. I don't know anyone who's used one, though.

I agree that, at least for some children, it is easier to pedal a bike than a trike. My dd1 learnt to ride a bike about 6 months before she could ride a trike. (She was 3, though.)

Hi

my daughter is 2 and 3/4 and has been riding a bike since the summer when she was 2 and 1/2, no problems at all. She likes to copy her big sister, took her about 2 weeks to get the hang of it and now is on it all the time, wears a helmet as well.

She had a trike but wasn't interested in it, so i guess just go for a bike and see what happens

have you considered a scooter? Big hit with ds from just after his second b'day. He mastered his bike not long before his third b'day. Trike never a hit.

Get her a bike. You can often get child bikes cheaply in the paper.

bought ds a trike when he was 2 and never was able to use the pedals just scooted along on it when he was 2 and 8 months it broke so we bought him a bike second hand and he used the pedals within 2 days.
i think bikes are much easier for them to pedal
