Flamesparrow (or anyone really) - could I ask your advice please on night-time nappies

Flamesparrow, I've been having a look at Bumfluff and I'm a bit lost with the sheer volume of products. DS is dry and clean in the day (at long bloody last) but is still wet at night. He's a large volume wee-er and up until recently we've been using disposable nappies, but now he refuses to wear them as they're "for babies". He uses disposable pull-ups instead, but they're just not up to the volume of wee that he produces so I have to change the bed at OMG o-clock several times a week.

Do you think that a washable would work better? It would have to be a pull-up style as he won't wear anything nappy-ish. TIA

Don't use ME bedwetters then unless he has a large bum and chnuky thighs so a large size fits him.

fangsandflash · 06/10/2007 21:41

Easy peasy bumpers - big and absorbent and stuffable!

bran · 06/10/2007 21:56

I was looking at ME bedwetters, but although ds is 3.4 yrs he's still lighter than the low end of the xsmall size. So if you think he should be chunky as well CarGirl then they are definitely not for hime as he's very skinny.

fangsandflash, could you do a link to bumpers please so I can see what they look like, thanks.

lordy - can't do links - do a search for easypeasy nappies and go to their own website. I like bedwetters - they are really easy and comfy and no wrap needed. Get a x small or small though - I could wear medium!

Flamesparrow · 06/10/2007 22:16

Ello

I would say minki yoyos from www.nappiesbyminki.co.uk - they are stuffable so you can put in as much absorbancy as you want, pull able uppable, and the fleece inner seems to be nicer (DD got sore with bedwetters )

bran · 06/10/2007 22:18

Ok, I've found Bumpers online and I don't think ds would wear them as they are essentially still nappy style. Has anyone tried ME Sandy bamboo? The blurb says they are slim fitting and they can be pulled-up, it's not really clear whether they need a waterproof wrap or not though.

I would say they are a normal sandys shape but made out of bamboo and would need a wrap. You need something much easier and more pull up/down - sandys wouldn't be really.

bran · 06/10/2007 22:23

Minki Yoyos might be the think I'm looking for. They even have a Bob the Builder design.

Flame,

I found that my yo-yos just leaked out the side with DD1 - anyone had success with them?? They look fab though.

Bran, just a thought but have you tried just putting him to bed with no nappy at all? I say this because DD1 was dry at night then regressed when her sister arrived....bought yo-yo's which leaked so left her without and she has never wet the bed since until one night when she insisted on putting a yo-yo on!

Also have you got one of those cotton wee soaker sheets from hippychick? They are great and if you get a single bed size and cut it in two you'll always have a dry one ready.

Good luck and hope he's dry soon.

Flamesparrow · 06/10/2007 22:37

The only time I had issues with yoyos is when DD decides to tuck in her pj top to be snuggly (into the waistband)

for your leaks - maybe a bit big?

bran · 06/10/2007 22:42

Laundrylover, dh has been suggesting that I should put him in bed without a pull-up and see what happens. I've been resisting, partly because the daytime training took sooooooooo long that I can't face the nighttime equivalent, but mostly because I didn't think of it first and therefore it can't be right. Do you really think it might work, given that ds has only been clean and dry in the daytime for 5 weeks or so (having started a week after Easter), and he has never, ever been dry overnight?

I will check out the soaker sheets.

Awww at DD Flame.

Yes, my girls are skinny minnies (just like their new streamlined mummy)....am thinking of getting the yo-yos out again for DD2 as need to make a better effort with potty training. Am willing to give them another chance as they look so fab. She loves her Brightbots but still wees in them.

Anyway the yo-yos got DD1 dry after 3 nights so that was £20 well spent.

fangsandflash · 06/10/2007 22:45

I tell you what is good if they just wet a bit or have the odd accident is the kushies bright pull-ups from www.thebabycatalogue.com - not the nightitme ones but the potty training BRIGHT ones - fab.

laundrylover · 06/10/2007 22:49

I just thought it was worth a go Bran but at reluctance to use DHs idea!!

Make sure he tries for a wee before bed too. We did lift DD1 for a time but some people don't like doing this. It worked for us but again one night we left her and she was fine so we never bothered again. Nothing ventured, nothing gained I guess.

BTW when I was potty trained (34 years ago!) my mum never put a nappy on at night once we were dry in the day and that was the norm she says. I guess there were a good few wet beds though.

laundrylover · 06/10/2007 22:50

OMG don't make me buy more nappies Fang!!!!! I'm already sneaking folic acid in an attempt to have to buy new ones when Dd2 is dry!!!

Flamesparrow · 06/10/2007 22:59

My mum says the same - but she also remembers having nylon sheets because they dried quickly each day

fangsandflash · 06/10/2007 23:02

My ds2 has gone from dry day and night to wet at night for about 6 months now - we have tried everything from bribery to giant red pull up pant wraps (reb) from flame but nothing has worked - he has been in dry nites for a bit becuase they were the only ones he felt comfy in - much to my disgust buthe has been dry 3 nights this week which is a miracle! I have told him I refuse to buy anymore when the current packet has run out!

fangsandflash · 06/10/2007 23:02

No need to wait until they are dry to try for the next one

laundrylover · 06/10/2007 23:07

But is it a valid reason fo having another baby?? I think not.

fangsandflash · 06/10/2007 23:14

You get to buy even more nappies.... thats a good enough reason!
