Sterilised bottles, ready made formula and a cool bag would be my suggestion for those small amounts.

Take the opened formula home in the cool bag. It keeps for 24 hrs in the fridge once opened.

I ended up buying the pre made bottles to use when out, as it was only for top ups it didn’t get too expensive, and just took a sterilised bottle to use.

I used the pre made cartons too- so much easier!

I had Tommee Tippee bottles that I filled with the right amount of boiled water and I had little pots you could hold the formula in in the bottle. When DD needed a bottle, we’d pour the formula in and shake it up. She would drink it at room temperature which helped but I know you can get bottle warmers for being out.

You can also buy ready made formula in bottles that’s ready to go.

If it’s powder you need hot water to sterilise the powder so that it’s safe to drink you could take a flask I suppose but ready made easier with such little amounts

Ready made is the easiest- just chuck a sterilised bottle and carton of formula in your bag and when it’s time for a feed all you need to do is pour. I used to discard what wasn’t drunk but I suppose you could take a cool bag as once opened it last 24 hours in the carton when refrigerated.

I took a flask of boiling water and a bottle of cooled boiled water. Formula in one of those dispensing pots where you can put 3 lots in.
Pour in formula and a few oz of boiled water and shake well. Top up with cooled boiled water.
I used the same volumes of each as the perfect prep machine but you get to know what volumes of each are needed.
It was a bit to take but fit under the pram and pre-made is so expensive.

Readymade is the way to go. So easy!

newmum234 · 06/09/2020 10:25

(And yes it’s more expensive but totally worth it for the convenience factor IMO)

How often are you typing to whilst out? If you're out 6/7 hours at a time, the pre made won't last. So hot water in flask, powder in tub, cooled boiled water in a separate bottle. Use a hot shot of hot, add formula, mix, top with cooled.

If it's a couple of hours I'd use pre made.
Good cool bag and ice block, decant milk into bottle and it should be good for 2 hours. Bottles are 200ml so keep rest in fridge and use for the rest of the day (24hrs) or take bottle, use when needed and then put in cool bag so should be fine for home later

We just take pre made bottles and a sterilised bottle or two. Pre made bottles are 90p each so if you use a couple in an afternoon out it's less than the price of a coffee.

Pegase · 06/09/2020 10:46

Powder dispensers you would need to take boiling water in a flask as water needs to be about 70 degrees when mixed With the formula. So pre made easier

Fatted · 06/09/2020 10:51

I made bottles up in advance. Stored them in the fridge, took them with me in a bottle cool bag.

If you want to stick to guidelines and don't have a baby that requires anything like reflux/comfort/allergy milk, you can buy the pre made bottles or cartons.

mynameiscalypso · 06/09/2020 11:03

Definitely pre made - given you're only giving a small amount, might be worth taking those little bottles that come with sterilised teats? I always kept a couple in our nappy bag when DS was younger in case of feeding emergencies and they work very well.

This is a good call actually of you're not doing a ton of outside feeds a day. Be a lot easier then eating or trying to directly chill open bottles of 200ml of formula
