Example day 1 Weetabix with whole milk and stewed fruit eg apple , pear and cinnamon (no added sugar made at home freezer staple) , a small banana, couscous with diced cucumber and tomato with home made paprika chicken casserole with peppers, carrots, tomatoes, chickpeas etc in it, a plain Greek yogurt, carrot sticks, a babybel, a whole grain rice cake, home made veggie minestrone with pasta in it, two cups of milk one about 150ml , one about 200ml.
Day two example bowl of porridge made with whole milk with blueberries and strawberries, a slice of toast with whole nut butter, home made chicken, lentil and spinach curry with rice and peas, a yoghurt, a satsuma, cheese, tomato and sweetcorn quesadillas (two mini wraps) with salsa for dipping and veg sticks, 'ice lolly' blitzed frozen fruit.
He often asks for snacks or more, they laugh at nursery because of his 'healthy appetite' , he doesn't have any junk everything I cook is from scratch and full of veg and beans/lentils/chickpeas etc, no added salt or sugar, no sweets/ice cream etc. Once in a blue moon he might have a rich tea finger. He's not fussy with his food. He's not been weighed for a good while but he's noticeably heavier than my friend's daughter who is about six weeks older, he's a little taller. He's very active, constantly climbing, running etc, doesn't look chubby, can see his shoulder blades etc, but people often comment if they pick him up that he's heavier than he looks. I've always been fairly pleased with him not being fussy, but a few comments recently have made me question the amount he eats. Portion sizes are not particularly small eg two fish fingers, with peas, sweetcorn (my handful) and two new potatoes and he'll polish the lot off then ask for fruit or yoghurt.
I guess I'm maybe a little conscious as I gained quite a bit of weight when I had him that's proving hard to shift (however I've just been diagnosed with thyroid issues), DH is tall and slim, and I don't want people to think fat mum over feeding her child.... I also want him to be healthy and have a good relationship with food. He's 21 months which is why the no sweets etc, I just don't see the need at his age, but will be fine in moderation when he's older.
