Breastfeeding with tongue tie

My baby girl is a week old today, the health visitor has referred for her to have her tongue tie sorted.
I am in such severe pain each time I BF her & am dreading feeding her now due to the pain. For the whole time my body is frozen, blood is drawn each time on both sides. She struggles to keep her latch on. I have expressed into a bottom but it is so much more time-consuming & I want to BF her we love the bonding element.
Is there any advice or suggestions to help with the pain. I am praying that it will be easier & relatively pain-free when the tongue tie is sorted Confused

Don't rely on the midwife being any expert (even a supposed "feeding specialist" can give bad advice about tongue ties in my experience). If at all possible I would just go private straight away. If you are in central Beds you could also try Erinn Winter

I went private and had it done on my living room floor when my baby was 9 days old.

Breast feeding was absolutely agony - my nipples were shredded and I cried through every single feed.

If I didn’t go private I would have had to stop.

Best of luck!!

My DD had a tongue tie that wasn’t diagnosed until she was about 8 weeks and on weekly weigh ins because she wasn’t gaining much weight and was dropping down the centile lines. It makes me quite angry that it was missed for so long because feeding was agony, I used to count backwards from 50 and by the time I reached 1 it was usually just about bearable. I got it snipped privately and the difference within a week was incredible.

My second child also has a small tongue tie, which I noticed after it was missed by the midwife etc. They then confirmed it after I pointed it out but said that they weren’t being snipped at the minute. Luckily it hasn’t affected his feeding in the same way and we manage to get quite a deep latch.

I hope you get it sorted, I still remember the pain of feeding my daughter and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
