my little girls is 6 months old, since birth shes never had bottles or formula its just always been breastfeeding.
I see other mums in the family where their babies eat tons, but mine eats about 2-4 baby spoons full and is done. Tbe other mums either stopped breastfeesing or just formula fed and replaced it with food when they turned 6 months.
My little one just isn't hungry for it, she doesn't cry straight after food for milk she just seems really content and full. I try give her a little bit in the morning, something at around 1pm and then 5pm. She then sleeps at around 6.30-8.30pm

Am i weaning her wrong? She seems to like the foods but the excitement doesn't last long.

Most times I end up giving her solis 1-2 times instead of 3 times because she just isn't hungry for it. There isn't a breastfeeding schedule, its all really random

Have you looked at baby led weaning? Might take the pressure off a bit. I loved it with my daughter. Food before 1 is just for fun and your little one is still very young x

At 6 months a couple of spoons is plenty. It's all about trying different flavours and then textures. You might find she prefers feeding herself chunks of food than being spoon fed. But right now milk should be meeting all her nutritional needs. Food is just to supplement this and get her learning what different foods taste like and how they feel in her mouth.

As they head towards 12 months the milk will gradually decrease and the solids intake will increase. My dd2 was exactly like this at 6 months and I worried a bit too, but she's now 12 months and only wants milk when she gets up in the morning and at night before bed.

I think you’ve misunderstood somewhere along the line.

6mo babies are NOT supposed to replace milk with food. They’re still to have breast/formula as the main part of their diet. Having just a couple of spoons at this stage is fine.

Look at the nhs weaning advice, it’s quite clear.

I've just read up on it and this sounds so much better than what I'm doing now. Is their a number of times to feed them this way or is it just whenever you feel they are a bit hungry?

Is their a risk of chocking?

You should still be feeding milk until at least 12mo. Or rather, your family members shouldn’t have stopped feeding milk at 6mo! My breastfed baby didn’t eat much solids either. Breastmilk is more nutrient dense than formula so breastfed babies are used to eating smaller amounts. BLW didn’t work for me, my baby couldn’t cope with lumps until about 12mo. A raw veg stick would have choked him. Breastfeeding on demand and eating small amounts of solid food is fine. Keep an eye on weight, as long as your baby is gaining weight and filling nappies normally then there’s no problem.

I have an eight month old bf baby. She eats so much more now than at six months, her appetite has just steadily increased. But still mainly having breast milk.

I give her strips of banana for breakfast which she can hold in her hand and nibble on. Or strips of toast with cream cheese. Weetabix or porridge you can also try.

For lunch you could try some veg purées or strips of steamed veg like pepper sticks cooked to be soft. Cucumber is a nice one cut into sticks long enough to hold.

They have an earlier gag reflex than us so will be quick to gag if something is too big. There are some choking hazards though, like whole grapes are a no-no as you probably know. Blueberries I cut into half.

They get most of their nutrition from milk until 12 months. A 6 month old has a tiny stomach and they won't each much. As they get older you will see the amounts increasing.

That a great amount of food for a 6 month old. At the beginning they are just exploring foods, what’s she like with finger foods?

Lockdownseperation · 05/09/2020 07:16

NHS advice is to not move to 3 meals days until after they have turned 9 months.

My 8mo DD isn't particularly interested in food either, she'll have maybe one spoonful and then she's done. I also BF and she drinks to her fill 5 times during the day. I took advice from here about baby led weaning and now I've taken the stress off of myself about her eating and just let her have fun with it if she shows any interest when I'm eating. She managed half a biscuit the other day and was so happy, and an absolute mess! 😂 I'd rather see her eat less and enjoy herself, than to develop a dislike for food.
