Dairy free formula?

I've always breastfed my nearly 10 month old and he eats solids well. I'm thinking about introducing one bottle of formula milk as part of his bedtime routine. I know he hasn't got long left but it would be nice to give me a break and I feel like I have way less milk now so not sure how easy expressing will be.

He currently has dairy allergy and we're using the milk ladder to slowly reintroduce foods, but will only be on proper milk by age 1.

So what could I use in the meantime? It's no a must have as I breastfeed so have never mentioned it with drs. Or do I have to go to them for a prescription?

*not a must

If it's that big a deal I'll just leave it, but would be nice to have the option!

There is one formula you can buy over the counter. Sma wysoy but it’s soya based and 50% of babies with CMPA are also allergic to soya. How is he with soya?

We've avoided it just in case but he might be OK!

Might be a good idea to challenge it first. Give a few spoonfuls of soya yoghurt and wait 3 days and if OK then give him a full portion of soya yoghurt or you could quickly run through the soya ladder.

My baby has a prescription formula for her cmpa, and all our hospital weaning guides say not to give soya so I personally wouldn’t go for the sma soya one. I’m not sure but could you use whatever replacement you use in cooking? Like oat milk? Otherwise I’d ask for a prescription. I think SMA Alfamino is one of the usual ones for that age.

Our paediatrician said soya milk is fine from 6 months as long as they are not allergic to it. If they are going to have a bottle every night I don’t think I would want to give oat milk just yet but for the occasional bottle it would be fine. Oatley barista or koko super would be good mills to try.

I have a CMPA son. I'll be honest here - you've got 2 months until they can have oat or soya milk. I'd push through and keep breastfeeding.

A bottle at bedtime won't help them to sleep and taking away a bed time feed might make bed time worse anyway.

The formula they need is super expensive unless on prescription. I don't think the GP would give the prescription as breastfeeding is going well.

The soya formulas shouldn't be used really unless you really need to.

At one we transitioned our son from breast / formula to alpro soya growing up milk and he still has that now at 3 and a half
