Baby won't sleep on back

My 10 week old is sleeping really well through the night, usually 10 - 5 but on her front. I know this is 'against the rules' but this is the only way she will settle for long spells. If she's on her back she wakes every hour or so, how can I help her settle better on her back? Any advice gratefully received.... No lectures on the sleeping on her front though please Smile

I know you don’t want a safety lecture, but I think the point of putting them down on their back is literally that they don’t settle in to a deep sleep. Babies are designed to sleep lightly and wake up regularly for safety, going in to a deep sleep can contribute to SIDS.

Is she rolling over or have you been putting her on her front? My DD was rolling over at that point and it makes a difference to the risk being put on their front vs them rolling over themselves. DD even wriggled down free of whatever I had to stop her rolling over so she could roll and did it all in a sleeping bag too.

Does she roll over herself or do you do it? If she rolls over herself then you can relax and let her sleep like that

Otherwise, try swaddling

@kell93 my boy was a front sleeper from the day we got home from the hospital. 10mo now and still front-sleeps. He now rolls all over the cot, but falls asleep exclusively on his front, in cot, pram, or anywhere else.

He is in a cot next to my side of the bed so pretty much I'm up every time he makes s sound, I felt his sleep is way more important than anything else so I let him.

We put her down on her side and she rolls onto her front, the midwife did say about putting her on her side. @ZooKeeper19 I'm not that concerned about her being on her front as she is strong enough to move her head etc, we are having nappy leak issues though with her on her front x

@kell93 yeah the nappies I can't comment on as my one is in reusables and luckily we don't have any of that. May be worth having a look if it persists? We have muslins daytime, terries night time and in 10m I have never had a single leak. I may just be lucky tho.

If you put her on her side then stretch her lower arm out to the side, so that she can’t roll onto her front.
