Swim nappies?

FTM swim nappy confusion...
So I'm taking my little boy swimming for the first time tomorrow, the pool policy is double nappy so we've got the little swimmers disposable nappies with a swim happy reusable one on top. Because of the current restrictions the pool policy is to arrive "swim ready" and not get changed there. So I was feeling super prepared had it all planned out in my head - get him ready at home with cosy onesie on top which can be whipped off on arrival.

However just been doing some last minute internet research for tips on taking babies swimming and came across the information that swim nappies only protect against poo, and wee will leak through them?!? So in this case if I get him ready at home then drive the fifteen minutes to the pool, he will have wet through his nappy? So surely I need to get him changed just before we enter the pool?

We are doing exactly as you describe and haven't had any accidents yet! I think they must absorb must of the wee but maybe they can't 100% guarantee none will leak into the pool?? What a thought...

*most of the wee

I've been thinking similarly for when I next take DS swimming. I reckon I'm just going to have to change him there because it's really not going to work with changing him at home. Same afterwards, I'll be as quick as possible but will still need to change DS poolside.

I didn't realise this until I drove to the beach on holiday with DS in a swim nappy. Both DS and the carseat were soaked through by the time we got there!
I just go swim ready and get DS changed poolside, there is no other option until they are potty trained. Everyone else will be doing the same so don't worry.

You dont say how old your child is but I agree, by the time you get to the pool the nappy may well have leaked, which will be a pain esp if it goes on the carseat or something. Just put them in a normal nappy, then while you are at your car or in the corridor, swap them into swim nappy and then the swim suit happy nappy thing. It wont take more than a minute especially if you use pull up ones. Basically they want you to not use the changing room, which you wont need to do if you just switch the nappies 5 mins before the lesson.

Could you just change him in the car when you arrive at the pool ?

AnnaBegins · 29/08/2020 21:35

Put a nappy a size bigger over the top of the whole thing!

This thread is a revelation. The pool is just full of wee isn't it?

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 29/08/2020 22:14

OfcourseIStillLoveYou yup! Was a surprise to me too when I realised, although obvious when you think about it. I take some small comfort that pee is a sterile liquid. Please dont anyone correct me if it isnt as I dont want to be put off swimming!

I take my little one swimming every week I change him poolside in arrival and before departure, I just take nappy sacks!

I checked with the pool and they said babies absolutely can be changed poolside

countdowntobaby2020 · 30/08/2020 00:09

Thanks everyone, think I'm going to go with the car change this time and then keep an eye on what everyone else does. Agree about the wee revelation! All those years I thought if you weed in a pool it changed colour... (awkward moment if it's only me who grew up being told that haha)

They definitely don’t absorb most of the wee, otherwise they’d swell up as soon as they hit the swimming pool!! They’re not absorbent at all. Just get him changed poolside, onesie is perfect for quick on/off, or I’ve bought a towel poncho for afterwards which means we can get out super quick.
