What is the best gift you've been given when you had a baby/what gifts do you buy that you found so useful as a parent?

My example: Sophie La Giraffe.

Honestly, the most useful were the clothes in the next sizes, new and used. It saved me time and money later in my maternity leave, by which time both were at a premium. Also the catering size lasagna a friend brought round when DS was a few days old Grin

I buy a Perfect prep for my friends, very well received particularly by first time parents. It’s become a bit of a joke now as everyone knows that’s what I’ll buy.

Probably a little swaddle blanket was the nicest... I got myself an audible subscription because newborns as gorgeous as they are can be boring so nice to have something to listen to.

@Parker231 I couldn't use a perfect prep because my two didn't have bottles. Might not be the best present for a person who doesn't intend to feed by that method?

I always buy funky muslins and babygros, OP, they were my most used items. Or a Moby Wrap sling.

Parker231 · 28/08/2020 21:03

I always check first they are planning on using formula. It makes life so much easier for the new parents so I’ve continued to give it as a present.

A baby monitor, they may go off 100 times in a year and drive me mad because a baby rolled to one end of the cot, but they are worth their weight in gold.

trilbydoll · 28/08/2020 21:04

Tuppence and Crumble star wrap

@Parker231

A bit presumptuous? It would have been a waste for me, reusable breast pads far more useful! Best gift I had was a session with a breastfeeding consultant

pollysproggle · 28/08/2020 21:29

A friend bought me a cordless, dimmable touch lamp which isn't exactly a baby product but it was my favourite and most used gift. No fumbling around for light switches during night feeds- just touch it and I had enough light to see without waking baby.

Baby specific- you can't go wrong with some lovely extra large Aden & anais muslins

Thermometer- literally saved my life after DD1
Cake

@minnieok - as I said in my earlier post, I check first that they are planning on using formula. Those I’ve given the perfect prep to have appreciated how much easier it has made things for them which was the aim of my gift.
