UK Holiday-7 month old-Sleep Experiences?

Hi
Were due to go on a Caravan Holiday a week on Monday (Me, Partner and 7 month old son) for 4 nights which I'm really looking forward to the chance of scenery. I'm not concerned about the car journey as its only 2 hours and also not concerned about naps as he will sleep in the pram or the car but was just concerned about the nights. We've hired a travel cot for when we get there, just wondered if an unfamiliar place and bed really distrups overnight sleep when away or what people's experiences of this are? :) thank you!! Xx

We took our 6 month old twins away (remote Scottish cabin) a couple of weeks ago and used a travel cot for the week. I took sheets and their sleeping bags and comforters and they were fine, a little unsettled the first night but I made sure I kept their nighttime routine the same (though using a sink for their bath rather than a bath Tub). Good luck :)

@Algebraicyourleg aww twins!! I take my hat off to you!! thank you so much for your quick reply that's great to hear :) we've got a foldable bath which we will take as we only have a shower at our house :) xx

@Dexy2020, I wish we had a foldable but doing it in the sink was quite funny. It was ok honestly - I was really dreading it and was worried about lack of sleep (for them and us) and I think I made it a bigger deal in my head than it was. Kids are quite resilient I have decided!

My 7 month old has slept in five different beds in seven days (don’t ask!) and been absolutely fine. Stick to your usual routine and have fun!

@Algebraicyourleg Brill!! :) im hoping the sea air and new things to see will tire him out for the night, your right I worry too much aswell and then in the end everything turns out fine and I kick myself for worrying haha! Xx

You do so much more on holiday and go places you have never been before. Generally you do a lot more walking and activities and it is more interesting so it tires their body and mind.

Every time we have been away with a travel cot they have slept absolutely fine.

@Tacca fantastic all sounds very positive! :) xx

Ive away a load with my 5 month old. Id say just keep the routine the same as much as possible and you'll be ok.

Does your travel cot come with a mattress? Worth checking, because ive been away before and the one we hired didnt. We had to quickly go to Argos and get one!

Abouttimemum · 28/08/2020 14:07

We’ve never had an issue with DS and he’s been on loads of breaks away. We always just kept his night time routine and times exactly the same and he settled no prob.
It might have helped that he slept in his travel cot at home for a while so was used to it, and it has a proper mattress.
I wouldn’t worry though, it’s good to get them used to it!

We took DS to the in laws about 6 weeks ago, he would have been around 7 months. He'd never been there before and he was absolutely fine.

Dexy2020 · 28/08/2020 19:26

@Letsallscreamatthesistene :o really I will definately check that as I'm not sure thanks for the heads up! Xx
@Abouttimemum we should really get a travel cot for when we're ready for him to have sleepovers at nanny and gramps house 😂 xx
@mylittlesandwich awww bless him, really good to hear xx

Three words of wisdom for you. Black. Out. Blinds!!!!!

Or is blackout one word? Ok two words of wisdom then - blackout blinds!!!!!

They have suckers and stick to any size window. Hope you have a lovely time. We took DS away at about five months and it was wonderful.

Dexy2020 · 28/08/2020 19:41

@SummerHouse haha that made me laugh!! 😂 He does sleep much better in the pitch black :) Thank you very much we can't wait xx
