I have two gorgeous boys.
Three yrs apart.
Eldest is 10.
They are best mates and I have always loved this about having 2 boys.
But they have recently really started bickering & really annoying one another on a regular basis. (They are still best friends in between these times)
My youngest said to me "it's just what siblings do mummy"
But it really upsets me.
I'm worried they will end up not liking each other if the bickering continues.
Help Confused
What can I do?

Your 7 year old used the term siblings?

SummerSummerSummertime · 28/08/2020 07:30

Yes 🤷‍♀️

Hi op, I have three ds and they usually play well together as close enough in ages but also fight a lot too. They do a lot of physical wrestling for fun but inevitably sometimes one gets hurt.
I bring my dcs out a lot as in the house it can get too intense and they end up at each other a lot.
My kids are very fit and physical though so need to go running /cycling/ swimming etc everyday and then when we re home they fight a lot less and are calmer.
Think siblings arguing is normal and they need to sort some things out themselves, I also think this is good for them as they are well able to handle social situations outside of the home too and able to deal with different personalities etc.
Are they maybe sick of each other ? Like think ours are getting like this after 6 months of no school here....

I have slightly older boys.. Same gap..
As does close friend...

I feel your pain...

Both sets are REALLY bickering and were previously great friends. Eldest is continually picking at youngest in both cases...youngest is being deliberately annoying..

For mine... I think it's a combination of eldest age.. Very emotional... And lock down... They are fed up of each other, need space and school plus activities.

I'm keeping them seperate more.
Have told them it's getting me down and I'm not taking them out if they spoil it with bickering...

I have 2 boys 2.5 yrs apart

Made a point of never listening to tell-tales/telling on each other. I also encouraged them to gang up on me instead of eachother Grin

So if they argued and bicker I’d be cross with both of them, then they’d gang up against me and my unreasonableness

Never pitched them against eachother, or compared them, or said “your brother does xyz, why can’t you”

It’s life long plan, but it seems to have worked (16 and 18 now)

I also always left them to sort out arguments/bickering by themselves. They learn dealing with conflict like that, and how to get out of an argument/mood

Good luck

It's just what they do. My 2 boys 18 months apart used to fight and bicker ALL the time. They are now 29 & 28 and best of friends.
I also have two other sons ( different relationship) 18 & 11 they also bicker so much...but I know they really do love each other and when I'm not about they don't do it . But it does drive me bonkers Smile

Ime it's a life skill!!
My adult dc are very capable people verbally! Years of sibling banter of positive and negative proportions!
For example my dd at starting secondary was bullied for apparently having an odd shaped head - she absolutely doesn't - but she felt confident enough after years (and 8 db's) - to throw a suitable comment straight back at him and a flounce mn would be proud of!
As long as no personal bullying involved I don't step in..
Obviously I don't leave them to feral fighting!

Thanks @Thefab3 yours sound very similar. Yes very active. And yes probably a bit sick of hanging out together quite so much!

I don't take sides.
I get that it's how they learn etc... I just find it really draining to listen to Confused
