Gro to bed bedding alternatives

Hi,
My DS has always slept using a gro bag from birth with the exception of very hot summer nights and we are starting to now think about removing his cot sides and stopping using the bags as he’s running out of room in them. Just stumbled across the gro to bed range but it looks like they have now stopped selling it which is very frustrating as it looked very good! Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for similar products out there? I’m worried a normal duvet won’t do the job and liked the idea he couldn’t kick the gro to bed off of him etc as he is a fidget!
Thanks in advance Smile

How old is he? DS worked out how to undo poppers and zips at 11 months so keeping him in a grobag was completely impossible. I put him in normal sleep suit or PJs plus a fleece onesie thing back to front which worked well to keep him warm. Think he went to a toddler duvet at about 18 months but I always put an extra fleecy layer on him if it was cold

Have you had a look on eBay/Facebook selling groups?

We got the Gro to Bed duvets from eBay and they were good.
Vertbaudet have duvets that tuck in at the bottom but our wriggler just laughed at them.

@BadgertheBodger he’s 2.5 years so we’ve done extremely well for him to not try and escape out of his bag let alone his cot! We’ve just got him a normal duvet to try tonight but I just wasn’t sure it would be enough for winter months or once we take his sides down and he’s got more room to wriggle or the duvet to fall off.

@drspouse I’m currently searching Facebook marketplace as we speak but not a lot coming up.

I think we put in an eBay saved search.

eBay have some.

I worried about this when we changed my son over. He quickly got used to the duvet and didn't kick it off.

We did get some nice fleece pjs for him as well. It meant that if he did kick them off he didn't get cold

BadgertheBodger · 27/08/2020 20:31

He’ll be fine with a duvet and chuck a fleece blanket on if it’s freezing Smile we live in a very cold, very old house in Cumbria and DS has been fine

charley39 · 27/08/2020 20:32

Thanks everyone will check eBay now and see what I find if not will stick with a normal duvet and thicker pjs!

Gosh I'm looking for the opposite as we need to cool our toddler down! Our 2.5 year old has had a toddler duvet for the last year (a wool toddler duvet from Dunelm). It's been fine during the winter but in the summer months he's so hot and sweaty I'm having to wash his bedding twice a week minimum. The duvet is meant to keep them cool in summer but warm in the winter... But doesn't seem to be working like that!

RedCatBlueCat · 27/08/2020 20:33

Single duvet, turned through 90 degrees, and put firmly under the mattress on one side.

mummymummymummummum · 27/08/2020 20:34

Amazon still have some 😊

Definitely go for thicker pjs. We've just switched from gro bags to a duvet this week. Admittedly it's been colder for the last few nights, but not much different in DSs room. He's had to go from sleeping in nothing or just a vest with his bag, to a full on onesie! The first night he woke up at 4am with cold little legs and arms, and he's usually such a hot bod. So yes, if you go for a 4 tog duvet, up the pjs!

Ds (2 and 2 months) moved from cot to bed in June. He's very proud of his "big boy blanket and cushion" (duvet and first pillow) and has gone from ending up at the opposite end of the bed that he was put to sleep to pretty much staying in position snuggled up. In winter I think we will use a vest and pjs for an extra layer.
