so my son is 7 months old and has loves muslins for as long as i can remember, he doesn't have a dummy or anything just muslins to snuggle with. he's just gone into his own cot and room and he's struggling without it. I have tied a knot in it incase he strangled himself with it but i still feel strange leaving it there!!! i know they're breathable but still, any advise from other mums would be amazing!!! TIA xx Smile

Well my son still has his muslin square, although years later it's more of a smelly little rag! He used to hold it when he had his bottle, and still cuddled it when he went to sleep. It's got a certain, ahem, odour shall we say! Are you worried about him getting entangled in it? Not something I worried about personally, I think I used to pull it away from his face when he was asleep now and then, but it's only the same as hugging a blanket? Prob better cos they're thinner.

My friend had this issue and she just cut it to make it smaller.

Could you cut an old one into quarters so that he still gets the smell/texture but it would not be big enough to wrap around his neck?

I really don't think s muslin square is a danger to a 7month baby. Try covering him with it for a game of peek a boo to reassure yourself. I'm pretty sure he'll be able to breathe fine. Not sure tying anything in baby's cot is a good idea though. I never let mine have anything in their cot, so would remove offending item when they went to sleep. These were cuddly toys, blankets etc though, non breathable objects.

My dd used them instead of a dummy, she used to suck a corner of them for years. We had so many of them because they were so soggy and disgusting. She loved them though.

Agree with cutting in to quarters, that's what I did for DS, and I also removed once he was asleep at night but let him keep it for naps.

My son is 4 and still sleeps with his muslin. He just holds on to it and loves the feeling against his cheek. No sucking and smelly odours. It gets washed weekly.
He has done so since he was a baby.

Ihaveoflate · 26/08/2020 21:46

My 14 mo has slept with a muslin (not the same!) since she went into a cot at 5 months. She also has one at nursery. I'm not sure she could get to sleep without it!

We have muzzies. In fact at 6 and 4 they still have them!
I tried cutting them into quarters and they refused them annoyingly so they kept them full size.
They're pretty breathable I suppose, but I did used to worry about them getting tangled.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 27/08/2020 22:12

DA had the same from about 6 months. We also put a big knot in the middle to make it smaller and less able to cover his face.

Aden & Anais sell muslin comforter squares which are smaller.

BoudicasBoudoir · 27/08/2020 22:16

My daughter has had a muslin with her at night from about six months. They’re breathable. She gets a clean one every night.

Whoopsmahoot · 27/08/2020 22:24

We had full size muzzies in this house. My so liked them brand new out of the packet when they were slightly rough. Meant I could wash them regularly and buy new now and again.

Agapantson · 27/08/2020 22:38

My 12 yo still takes one to bed with him

Justme10 · 27/08/2020 22:42

My DS has had his every night since about 6 months with no problems, he's just over 2 now. He's recently started sucking the corners which I'm not keen on!

ChickensMightFly · 27/08/2020 23:08

My nephew was the same, count yourself lucky cos they are so easy to find. My sister had a collection, so no distress when it has to go in the wash, got left in a shop or whatever... Just go in the drawer for a new one. My DD in the other hand attached herself to a rare fabric unknown to Google and I live in fear of losing it. 😆😆
