Double Pushchair or Not?

Hi,

We have a newborn and an almost 3 year old. We had been using a stroller for the baby that fits their car seat, but as we get more mobile (just recovering from a c section), I think maybe I'm going to want to cover bigger distances that our toddler just won't be up to. We had thought we'd be ok, but I'm starting to wonder now having had to take them both to the hospital the other day on my own - if our toddler had fallen asleep I would have been stuffed. Any advice? I'm thinking about getting a 2nd hand Out N About.

Thanks!

I would get one. Like you say, you can get one secondhand, use as long as you need, then resell it on.
It’s handy if they need to nap or you need to contain them

Out n about is quite literally my favourite pushchair ever.
I would happily have more kid just to use mine again, I could fit so much shopping in too just do it

I had the same age gap and didn't need a double. However I drove most places and if I went for a walk it would be in the woods etc where I didn't have to worry about roads.

Ds didn't nap either so I didn't need to worry about transferring him asleep. I think it depends on your child and where you are walking

@Notnowjo 😂

I think we will go with a secondhand one - that way if it sees little use it won't be the end of the world. Ours is a napper, and like me, when he's gone, that's it. Just struck me the other day it could end in disaster!

Thanks everyone 🙂

I wondered the same thing. I have a 12 weeks old and a 2.5 year old. Managed to get a second hand one off marketplace and use it every day. For errands but also for exercise. I had a section and from about 8 weeks I've been taking them out every morning. Really helping with baby weight loss and feeling better mentally and physically. So glad I got one

We had a second hand out n about nipper with a 2.5 yr age gap (mainly as older child was a crap walker and still needed naps regularly). I loved it. It was so easy to push, it’s like they have magic bearings or something. Beat the pants off the fancy Phil & Teds I got first.

Thanks everyone. Having been pregnant through the height of lockdown, it felt like we'd never be going out, but I definitely think I need a contingency plan when we go out on our own.

I had an Out n About and loved it. I had 3 DC age 5 and younger, eldest would go on the buggy board but would also often swap with the middle one and want to sit down especially after a long day when she was in Reception and then we had a twenty minute walk home uphill.

Sorry to jump on your post @Ladybyrd I have a quick question about the out n about type buggy, I've been looking at that or the mountain buggy duet as I'm due twins in December and have an 18 month old. Are the seats suitable for newborns (month old) without having to get the carry cots to go with them? My boy used the carry cot bit for a few months and then went into the seat but laying down more I just don't know if I can justify the price of the buggy it's self and nearly 400 on 2 carry costs that will barely get used x

GroupSects · 26/08/2020 22:12

Yes! The Out n About lays completely flat and DD3 was in it from birth.

GroupSects · 26/08/2020 22:12

Oh and DD2 as well!

Mine still occasionally used a buggy until she was 4, for long journeys.
You can also consider attaching a buggy board or else getting her on a scooter alongside the baby's buggy. But they do still get tired at that age.

@GroupSects thank you so much! This is like music to my ears!!

GroupSects · 28/08/2020 08:08

I was quite gutted to let it go really, so easy to push even with one hand. I got lucky with it and bought the display model as it was the only one in stock at the time so got it for a little bit cheaper and with the shopping basket underneath thrown in!
