2 year old suddenly wont sleep!

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone has some words of advice here because I'm slowly going turning into some sleep deprived monster in recent days! My 2 year old (27 months) has always been a great sleeper and , in the grand scheme of things, quite easy to put down for naps and bedtime. Increasingly though, hes became quite fussy and will cry for a good 10-15mins before settling down himself - fine, I can cope with that! However, the last week he has been a nightmare.....screaming like a banshee and really wont settle until either my husband or I lie down on the floor beside him. We can then only leave the room once hes asleep. Then, in the middle of the night, he waking once or twice and doing the exact same thing - screaming and needs us to lie down beside him to go back to sleep. It's like hes became really needy again. To top it off, we have another baby due in 3 weeks so I really want to try and sort this now (I wondered if he senses change is afoot but what can I do on this front....change is coming but he is incredibly loved and I dont think he could get any more love and attention).

Other than that there's nothing particularly different about life for him......nursery is the same, his room is the same etc.

I cant decide if it's just a phase, new baby related or if I'm now suddenly doing something wrong!? Any words of wisdom would really help! X

Hi he is definitely going through a phrase and testing the boundaries. Continue to do what you are doing. I have a 2 year old and a 1 month old baby and lately 2 year old has definitely been throwing tantrums and screaming top of his lungs. I walk away until he has calmed down or if he is asking either for me or his dad etc we will calm him down by hugging and laying down.
