Ideas to help for a 19m old

I'm having a terrible time with my back, waiting for an MRI.

Can you please help me with some ideas that don't make me feel like a rubbish mum so I can sit with my son in highchair or similar and he can be occupied. I'm in so much pain I'm finding park days harder at the minute.

We already do lots of reading on the sofa, playdough and stickle bricks x

Any ideas?

Spread out rice or cous cous on a tray and ‘write’ in it.

Paint with toy car wheels.

Freeze toys into ice cubes/blocks and watch them melt/ chip at them with cutlery.

I’m afraid though that all these create mess which I’m guessing isn’t going to work too well for you as I imagine you don’t want to be crawling round on the floor to sort....

Blowing bubbles
Stacking cups and nesting eggs
Popping bubble wrap
Finger puppets
Melissa and Doug reusable sticker pads
Play catch with a balloon or bounce a balloon on his head!

Make shapes and 3d ‘sculptures’ by clipping clothes pegs together

to help with tidy up, get one of these garden/potting trays. If you play with anything from marbles to puzzles, the pieces will all stay together so you will have less bending down to pick up the bits.

Pushing things through a hole in a box, kept mine entertained for so long at a similar age. Make some holes in a small cardboard box and they push something like dried pasta through it.

Similarly empty wrapping paper tube taped at an angle and the toddler rolls a ball through it then collects it from the other side, again and again and again.

Musical instruments to play together and music on in the background.

There's always CBeebies too!

Sorry about your back. My 19 month old loves stickers, particularly dinosaur ones. He sits and plays with them for ages (when I say ages i mean at least 5 minutes which feels like a long time nowadays!)
