Toddler breakfast

Anyone have any good suggestions for a toddlers breakfast, my daughter lately doesn't want cereal. Usually has either weetabix, ready break or whole grain hoops or sometimes a crumpet. Lately just doesn't eat much of either and asks for snacks. Has also become a fussy eater at tea time and doesn't want to eat what we have , any suggestions on how to get her to eat the same as us plus how to get her to eat vegetables would be great lol

Check out whatmummymakes, some really nice, easy recipes that could help. I had the same issue with my DD rejecting cereal/toast. I made a good puff pastry/cream cheese, strawberry (no added sugar/sweetener) breakfast thing and it went down a treat.

Does she eat fruit? When mine is fussy I do a fruit platter (that's what I tell him it's called Grin) I'm not sure if it's the colours but he'll eat it all. I find when he's being fussy if I get him involved in preparing the food that helps. Hiding veg in pasta sauces is another way to get the veg in as well.

The rule in our house is that I will not serve up something I know they actively dislike (which is not the same thing as something they've got bored of or just don't fancy) and they eat it, or don't eat it. 99% of the time they eat it.

We started this at toddler size. So breakfast might be a choice of two cereals, or nothing. I think they key to your sanity will lie in not providing an alternative just because the child doesn't fancy xyz.

Hoping to try her on porridge once the weather cools down a bit.
Does he like eggs? Egg on toast or dippy egg and soldiers makes a very filling and healthy breakfast

DS has never liked cereal much. I often give him a plate of chopped cheese, fruit (grapes or bananas), maybe some yoghurt or toast sliced or toasted pancake. DD always liked porridge, toast and peanut butter. When she was younger I would give her plain Greek yoghurt with some sliced apples softened in the pan in a smidge of butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon, or with sliced banana or strawberry. You could also try a plain one egg omelette.

You could try eggy bread or drop scones.

But I agree with pp offer a choice of a couple of things, take it or leave it. They're in control.

For veg, you've got to keep putting it on the plate and not make a fuss either way. It took my 2nd until age 2 to try broccoli, I just kept putting 1 tiny floret on his plate each time we were having it. It's his favourite now, aged 3.

When the kids were toddlers we had the attitude that we serve them a bit of everything, if they don't eat it that's up to them, and there's always fruit and yoghurt after.

Meals where they can serve themselves are sometimes surprisingly successful at encouraging kids to try new things too. They're in control.

We always give DS (2) porridge, but mix up the toppings and let him choose, which he really enjoys. Options include: grated apple/pear, cinnamon, blueberries/raspberries/forest fruits (we buy frozen and stir them in when cooking), coconut (desiccated or flakes), almonds, cinnamon, raisins, honey. I agree with others that giving them a choice within your limits is the ideal!

Yoghurt and fruit is usually what I give DS when he’s in a fussy mood, occasionally if we have them in give him a brioche etc. But he also sometimes has Philadelphia on toast/beans on toast/scrambled eggs etc.

My son astounded me at the weekend by eating a whole dippy egg and toast! I think it was the novelty factor of hitting the top and dipping toast in... oh, and the fact it was mummies!

Generally we have cereal, and i put the boxes on the table to be chosen....we regularly have a mix of 3 lol! But I don't care if he eats it!!
Jam on toast, crumpets, pancakes and fruit, scrambled egg are our other go to breakfasts!

My Dd loves pancakes as a treat - I use a very basic recipe for Scotch/American pancakes from the baby led weaning app. They do a fussy toddler app as well with suggestions for each meal including lots of hidden veggie options

We always start the week with at least 2 different cereals (rice crispies/cornflakes/shredded wheat/wheetabix/fruit&fibre), bread (toast), crumpets, fruit toast, and a variety of fruit. Toppings for bready stuff are cashew butter, marmite, and Philadelphia. At the weekends there might be eggs or less healthy cereal/toast toppings (eg jam). They have always been allowed to choose what they want and how much (4 and 6yo now) but once something has run out that's it until the following week. It seems to work!

Veg: you say he wants to constantly snack. Can you make all snacks veg? Added bonus is they shouldn't fill him up so much as to stop him eating dinner. Giving them a starter of crudites before dinner has worked for us in the past too, as at that point they are usually so hungry they are less fussy.
I used homemade soup as a pasta sauce a lot when they were smaller too. You can get loads of veg into that, and gives a bit more variety to the usual tomato sauce with added hidden veg.

I agree with PPs about a policy of never serving stuff you know they actively dislike (not just isn't their fave/bored of), but past that there is one meal which you can take or leave. I have every family member choose at least 1 meal a week for the meal plan which also helps if they start moaning: "We had your choice last night which we all ate, and tonight is Daddy's choice".

How long has he been picking at food? I find my DCs go in cycles. Some weeks/months they eat more than me, then we have periods where they barely pick at their food. During the picking phases we reiterate that there is nothing else but it doesn't bother them as they just aren't that hungry.

Top breakfasts my 3 year old will eat apart from cereal and toast etc

Spinach & cheese omelette (the spinach goes really soft and finely chopped doesn’t even notice it) sometimes I throw some tuna in too or chopped tomatoes etc

Porridge and honey

Greek yoghurt pancakes made into favourite characters with berries For decoration (cookie cutters work great and can cut stars etc)

Greek yogurt with maple syrup and berries, chopped banana on side

Egg, toast, beans tomatoes

Homemade banana bread with yoghurt and fruit

For vegetables and dinner time have you tried blending a load in a tomato pasta sauce and then putting that with pasta , lasagne or potatoes, chicken etc.

And then cheese on top like a pizza topping and you can also used it for little toasted muffins
