DH and I disagree on needing a double buggy

Our DS1 will be 2yrs 8mths when DS2 is born. We've got a pram with a buggy board. I'm going to give a sling a go as well, when the baby is small. But I really think we need a double buggy. I can't imagine how I would manage out the house with two of them by myself. I don't think DS1 will be old enough to go any length of time out without a pram without getting tiree, and also I think will just run off and it'll be a nightmare. DH thinks it's a lot of money to spend on something we'll barely use, and we should just 'cope' for a few months and DS1 will be old enough to walk everywhere by then...

Anyone got any experience and input on how they coped with a similar age gap? Is a single pram feasible? Any recommendations for a good double buggy?

I have a an 18 month old and 3 month old I couldn't manage without my double pram, I was told I wouldn't need one etc but honestly it is essential for me.
I bought a second hand uppa baby vista double off ebay and it's a great pram! Very versatile and lots of different seat configurations too. I'd have a look for one on ebay if I were you.

I’ve had 2y3m and 2y9m age gaps and haven’t had a double, or a buggy board. I got the older ones used to walking before the baby arrived. Also found that the older one didn’t want to be in a pushchair once baby here as they were big boys.
I’d say it wait and see how you feel first, it’s a massive expense.

I had a 2 year 3 month age gap and we didn't need a double. DD1 was a very early and competent walker and just didn't go in the pram long enough to warrant getting a double.

She's nearly 4 now and walks everywhere fine.

I will add If it was DD2 who was born first I would have most certainly needed a double because she hates walking around...I guess it just depends on your child.

Compromise. You don't need to spend £10000s on one. But if you think you'll find it useful/necessary you should get one.

2.5-3 years is prime tantrum territory - useful IME to have somewhere to contain toddler if this happens in an unsafe location e.g. near road/in busy shopping area etc. And you don't always have the chance to relocate the younger one while dealing with the older one so it's useful for the younger to already be somewhere safe.

I didn't have a double buggy. I used a buggy board on the pram and the buggy. I did drive so that made it easier.

I will have a 2yr5mth age gap between dd and ds and I'm not buying a double straight away. Im going to get a decent carrier so if dd needs to use the pushchair I can carry the baby, or the baby can go in carrycot and she can walk. She doesn't go in the pushchair much as it is now only if I'm going to the shopping centre really. Once the baby is old enough to come out of the carrycot I might get a second hand double stroller for holidays and days out. But as ds will be a winter baby I doubt I'll be doing much walking, definatly not enough to paybout for a double travel system type buggy

Almost same age gap , slightly more. Double buggy was huge and a pain in the arse. I used it a handful of times. Buggy board I used a lot.

2.4 year gap, no car and we never had a double buggy. Used a sling and a buggy board when DC2 was tiny then DC1 got a micro scooter for third birthday which she went everywhere on afterwards.

I would wait and see! I thought we'd need one (DD was 2yr1month when baby was born) but actually did really well with the buggy board. If we were out for the whole day and she needed a nap then baby went in the sling.

I managed without a double buggy with a 2 year 2 month age gap. Buggy board with seat worked really well for us
