6 month old - can sickness bugs really last 2 weeks? Help please!!!

2 weeks ago 6 month old DS was unwell/vomiting. As he was struggling to even keep down water or breastmilk took him to the GP who suggested tonsillitis and prescribed antibiotics. Later that evening DS was screaming so much I ended up taking him to a&e where the doctor said she saw no sign of tonsillitis and suggested it was a stomach bug.
Gave just breastmilk for 5 days before gently reintroducing purees - was sick several times an hour later. Took him back to the GP who said he must still have a bit of a bug. Waited another 5days before attempting puree (today), had literally not even a smidgen of it. Has just been sick numerous times, the last 2 vomits being bright yellow.
Can a stomach bug really last this long? (12 days)
Other than the days I've tried purees, he has been fine and not had any sickness.
Prior to being unwell he had been eating brilliantly, no vomiting after eating, and ate so much I would have to actually stop him.
Prior to beginning weaning he was EBF, still breastfed now. Had reflux when he was younger but wss never on any medication for this.
Please can anyone advise? I'm getting really worried. should I be going back to a&e???

Trust your instincts and keep bothering your GP if you are worried. Maybe ask to talk to a different GP next time. In the mean time, breast milk will be excellent nutrition. You could give purees a miss and try him on a single very simple food. Water, breadstick, banana. I'm just thinking that if you switch to non-puree food, you'd be able to figure out if it is something about the purees that he is reacting to.

Hmmm its a bit strange he's not sick on milk but it starts after purée.

How long was he on purée before he started with the sickness?

Could you try a purée of your milk with something so it's milk based as that might settle in him better?

Regardless I'd definitely contact your health visitor as they usually have loads of experience and knowledge.

Thanks for your replies, he had been having purees for 3 weeks with no issues.
Has anyone else had any experience of this, my frantic googling is making me panic!
