Grunting baby

Does anyone else have a grunty baby? 7 week old DS has been on formula for 3 weeks after a rocky BF start to say the least.

At night he grunts and rolls his legs up and side to side but doesn't wake himself up, it's like he's not bothered by it. DP and I on the other hand cannot sleep through it because it's loud and always sounds painful!

He doesn't do it when he's feeding/playing/on his tummy etc, just mainly at night and when he wakes from daytime naps.

Any ideas? He's on HiPP organic milk and I'm wondering whether I need to change it...

I've read that this can just be a 'thing' they grow out of at around 12 weeks, but if there's anything I can do to help him before then I'm up for trying.

He is pooing daily at least once so not constipated but the grunting tends to be worse before he goes.

Thank you

Perfectly normal. Babies are weird.

SeaToSki · 22/08/2020 01:15

As long as you are sure it is him playing with his voice or bearing down, just ignore. Do look at how he is breathing when he makes the noise though, grunting associated with any breathing issues is a red flag and you should take him to the GP.

Aw yes it's normal, ours did it too. We used to say that it sounded like there was a pig hunting for truffles in the bedroom 😂

Yes it's him moving gas down. Babies don't know how to push a fart out without making noise in the beginning Grin

Laserbird16 · 22/08/2020 03:59

For such small people they're pretty noisy, I kind of miss the little piggy noises

I seem to remember that Hipp Organic is the most broken down formula that there is, so less likely to cause problems. Doesn't mean it wouldn't of course.

Thank you for your replies, can I ask, those of you who's babies had this did you try anything or did they just grow out of it? If so at what age?

Sounded like a farm next to my bed. I was so confused by it and remember it vividly. I read it's their digestive system, a bit like the noise when new plumbing comes on.

macaroniinapot · 22/08/2020 07:49

I can't remember how long it lasted for as time felt so strange in those early months. But there's nothing you can do about it and they will just grow out of it eventually.

We took it in turns to sleep with earplugs in

bunters · 22/08/2020 07:52

My baby was breast fed and she sounded like a farm yard at night. It got worse as the night wore on, but she'd never wake up and was always cheerful as anything the next morning 🤷🏻‍♀️ she did eventually stop doing it

LordOfTheOnionRings · 22/08/2020 15:45

Mind was a little grunter, everyone would say, 'oh, he is having a poo' and it's like no Grandma, he doesn't spend all day doing one continuous shit like an ice cream dispenser.

JKDcot · 22/08/2020 18:59

Breast fed 11 week old and he’s exactly the same - so much worse from 4am onwards. It doesn’t seem to bother him but makes it very hard to sleep for us.
He seems to now do a morning poo after his 6am feed so maybe it’s his bowels starting up?

MrsWolf2 · 22/08/2020 21:12

It was like trying to sleep in Jurassic fucking Park with mine.

I think it stopped, or at least got quieter and/or less frequent, when she was about 3 months.

I'm sorry but this is the best comment I've read 😂😂😂

My little girl did this and I always thought she seemed uncomfortable but she never cried or anything because of it. Used to keep me awake too! But yeah she grew out of it tbh and she's 10w now. Xx

🤣

I get this from everyone which is why I started to worry! Thanks everyone hopefully he'll grow out of it soon 🙏
