Baby's body temp

Hi,
Since Monday night my baby is having low body temperature while asleep. Will be anything between 35.3/36.0. When I put her to sleep I will cover her with 2 blankets she also has a sleepsuite on and still hardly goes up above 36. A couple of nights ago went to a&e they checked her out and said she is fine/healthy. We've also seen the pediatrician who said the same thing that is nothing wrong with her .
Despite the fact that I was reassured that she is fine, I am still worried.... constantly touching her to make sure her skin is not too coldConfused
Does anyone had same issues with their LO?

Does she wear a vest under her sleepsuit too?

EnglishRain · 21/08/2020 05:04

Also is your room warm/cool etc? My DD is five weeks and only wearing a sleepsuit and a nappy currently, but it's over 24 degrees in here and she's not cold. My midwife said babies will let you know if they are cold whereas they won't if they are hot. Did the hospital say whether this might be her normal temp?

@EnglishRain congratulation for you DD.
She is not wearing a vest underneath her sleep suit, our room is not cold the temperature is all the time between 24/25 degrees. Unfortunatley no one knows why this is happening as normally her temp is above 36.6.
Yeah, I was told as well that babies will cry if they are cold but she is not crying at all but if I check her she feels a bit cold to touch( her chest and bcak of the neck).

What checks did they do at A&E?

Nini12 · 21/08/2020 07:30

@Sayitagainwhydontyou they checked vital signs temperature/sats/BP/Heart rate. Listened to her heart and chest, checked her tummy.

Then they've done everything right, and this could just be one of those things.

How old is she? Babies can be pretty weird in terms of temp and regulation, they're still figuring stuff out! Do lots of skin to skin, as your body temp will regulate hers, and just keep an eye and try not to worry. You've done everything right.

I think I'd try a different combo of layers - maybe a vest, sleep suit and 1 blanket. I found sleeping bags to be really good once baby is the right weight too - you can get them in a range of togs.

I'd also say that in my experience room thermometers can be a bit hit and miss - the one in DDs room said 25 last night but when I went up to check on her it definitely felt cooler than that. Our house one said similar but by about 9.30pm I was putting on a jumper.

How are you checking her temperature?

Persipan · 21/08/2020 12:02

Why are you checking her temperature?

nicknamehelp · 21/08/2020 12:13

Firstly if your baby is well there is no need to keep checking temp everyone's goes up and down within range. If you need to are you sure your thermometer is accurate as some are not (check your own temp with it) forehead ones in particular read low. Best are ear or under arm.
