ive been using cloth (bambino mio) since the beginning with my dd and getting on very well. my dd has just moved into size 2 nappies and makes her bum pretty huge!! tried the next size up in trouser but they were pretty snuggly even now so doint think theytd last long....the size after would be 9-12 months and shes only 18 weeks! admittedly have only tried 1 shop, maybe its their cut?

what do other cloth wearin babies do????

I think some shops are definitely more generously cut. I´ve got some Next trousers that fit in the right size for his age and apart from that I stick to dungarees cos they´re nice and wide over the bum and waist.

Flamesparrow · 04/10/2007 12:45

H&M are really good for cloth

derah · 04/10/2007 12:47

I find that the cheaper the clothes, the more likely they are to fit! Dungarees are a brilliant solution. Also, going for fabric with some stretch rather than stiff denim (probably more comfy for them anyway!). Try some other shops and see what you find. I wouldn't go up more than one extra size in trousers because then they'll be far too long. It can be tricky finding trousers that fit, but they are out there, I promise!!

Keep the trousers when she is older as the trousers sometimes fit again as they were only tight round the waist because of the nappy. Lengthwise they are okay.

Hi,

Another Mumsnetter gave me a pattern number for some trousers which she uses with her baby. It's a Simplicity pattern no: 3941. I've not made them up yet - summer etc but will be giving them a go soon(ish!)

I know what you mean re trousers though. I like Sainsbury's - they seem to work for a while.

I've also been on the phone to M&S today asking if they will be likely to start a range of clothing for babies in cloth nappies - they want to go carbon neutral after all! The lady I spoke to will be putting this forwrd as a suggestion to the buying team. However, they will be more likely to seriouly consider this as a range if loads of other people also ring up! So here's the number:0845 3021234

I hope it's okay to put this here!

Washersaurus · 04/10/2007 15:15

Linda, that was me who recommended the pattern - I was wondering how you had got on with it. I must make some more trousers up soon so will be trying some different fabrics (if DS2 ever gives me time to use my sewing machine again!). It only took me 30 mins to make the last pair once I had cut out the pattern pieces.

DS1 mostly wears H&M trousers as they are so adjustable around the waist (although sometimes the legs are a bit too long for him), but he usually wears a size smaller!

Washersaurus · 04/10/2007 15:18

good work with M&S btw, I find their trousers are usually just too tight around the bum and waist for cloth nappies!

I also agree with the poster who mentioned the cheaper ones being better - some of our best fitting clothes have come from Ethel Austin - cheap and cheerful!

primigravida · 04/10/2007 15:27

There's a company called cut4cloth which specialise in clothes for cloth nappy wearing babies and toddlers. They're a little pricey but you can sometimes pick up their stuff cheaper off ebay.

Orchide · 04/10/2007 15:41

Thanks all for your replies and ideas.
However the waist isnt the prblem, its the extra space that is needed aorund the bum area!!
Will go and look at H+M and cut for cloth websites now.
Thanks again

Damn - I meant to go there today - they have just opened up a "green" M&S in Bournemouth and I was gonna see what their cloth/nappy/breastfeeding type stuff was like and whinge where necessary whilst they had publicity

Flamesparrow · 04/10/2007 15:42

I can get you a discount on C4C on anything from the babykind site Just email bumfluffnappies at gmail dot com

hi Washersaurus!
Feeling a bit guilty I haven't made up the trousers yet!!!! Really need to get up the A55 to Abakhan - our local fabric place. Mum keeps saying we'll go....
Thanks again tho!

Washersaurus · 04/10/2007 22:50

Nothing to feel guilty about....I currently have about 5 unused patterns and a stash of fabric ready to be made into something special

My next mission was going to be some PJ's big enough to fit over the DS' HUGE night nappies!!

micromummy · 04/10/2007 23:07

I found Sainsbury good. ds2 is 5 months (7kg) and the 6-9 month ones are nicely loose on his enormous terry bottom. H&M the legs are very long (ds is a tall 2.6 and finally the 18-24 months fit without rolling up the legs...) but the waists do adjust loads. Seem to wear well - ds has been wearing his for a year now...Also lots of dungarees here (very cute). Think this problem goes away with time as the ratio of nappy to baby decreases..

Orchide · 05/10/2007 09:37

Made my first purchase from cut4cloth this am. so thanks for recommendations. will also have to take a trip to our nearest H&M fairly soon.

micromummy, im sure sainsburys boys stuff is far nicer than their girls selection....or maybe the sainsburys near me just has a rubbish range?

Have you been in Tesco recently? They are doing some FAB leggings which easily fit over cloth nappies (even on my chubster baby) AND are really cheap. Highly recommended.

sallyf104 · 06/10/2007 20:18

Meant to say, they look as if they have been cut for cloth and have a HUGE amount of room for big bums.

Roskva · 06/10/2007 20:29

I agree with Sally - much as I dislike Tesco on principle, their trousers (especially the stretchy ones) are great over cloth nappies. Mothercare things are pretty good over cloth, too.

Hels67 · 09/10/2007 12:02

My DD aged 9 months is also wearing bambino mio cloth nappies. They were really good under most clothes in the beginning but now that she's onto the Large size nappy cover, many trousers don't fit.

I find this a particular problem with denim trousers and, as has been mentioned already, M&S trousers/leggings which are really tiny around the bottom area.

Agree with other posters about Tesco - I am also not a big fan of the shop, but the leggings they are selling in the Cherokee range are really good, and they don't only come in pink either, which is a change

Also agree about the dungarees being larger - for some reason DD, who is wearing 9-12 months clothes in everything else, and has been for some time, continues to wear a pair of M&S denim dungarees aged 6-9 months and they fit fine - talk about a contradiction !!
