Time out?

My two year old has just started hitting me on a regular basis - does anyone still do timeout or naughty chair these days? I’ve read so much conflicting advice; not sure which route to take?!

I’m adopting the calm, “no hit mummy” at the moment and not sure it’s working?

We have a naughty chair for our 2 year old and its fantastic. As he's small he doesn't sit on it for long at all, usually just a minute or until he's calmed down. And that's what it's best for - when he's really kicking off it gives him a chance to calm down and nips his tantrum in the bud. We then ask him to say sorry and have a cuddle and then carry on as normal.

The only thing I might change is the name of it. I read somewhere about calling it a thinking chair and I quite like that. Especially as he gets older.

Absolutely I did!
I always would use a much firmer tone that “no hit mummy” which isn’t even correct English!

@FelicityPike it’s called “Toddler-ese” - a toddler’s native tongue so to speak.
