What to put crawling baby in ?

Hi,
My little girl has just started crawling. I’m finding it impossible to do anything. She’s now to big for her bouncer and I don’t have anything else I can strap her down in to get anything done like the washing up ect. Even if I leave the room and go to the toilet when I come back in she’s either stood up or on the other side of the room. I don’t want her to have an accident.

What’s everyone using to keep your babies In one place to 10 minutes.

I also don’t have the biggest of living rooms with much space to spare x

@SamK93

In the high chair with some snacks! Healthy of course, or some toys.
Nope.

You should NOT leave a baby/small child with food.

EVER.
@premiumshoes the high chair would be next to wherever I was. For example, cleaning up in the kitchen. They'd be in the kitchen with me
I see your next post - I wish this quoting system was more user friendly!

Quick update there! The OP was asking about when you're not right next to them.

I baby proofed the living room, and put a stair gate on the door. But I generally didn't worry about crawling across the room, or pulling up to standing. By the time their big enough to do it, their robust enough to fall without getting injured. If I need to tidy the living room, or want them in the room I'm in (if I'm going to be a while) the the high chair works well. But I try to avoid keeping them strapped into thing as much as possible, so I just put them on the floor if it's safe to.

I got a travel cot and put it in the living room. I also got a mattress to make it more comfortable and then put DS and toys in it. He hated it at first but soon got used to it. I baby proofed everything downstairs as much as possible too. DS is now about to turn 2 so I've moved the travel cot to my bedroom so I can contain him while I'm in the shower. He now watches TV while in there. I also had a sit me up chair from fisher price before he could walk but kept this upstairs.

Good lord no.
 1. You shouldn't leave a baby alone with food
 2. Don't get into the habit of giving them food to 'keep them busy'

Put them in the highchair with a toy to play with or book or something.

Honestly, this is life from now on so the easiest option is to baby proof as much as possible and take them with you when you're going to be gone for more than 30 seconds. DD used to empty the tupperware cupboard while I was cleaning the kitchen!

Sweettea1 · 18/08/2020 20:36

high chair with few toys on tray in whichever room your busy in so you can still talk sing to her.

Smurf123 · 18/08/2020 20:44

We used a travel cot as a play pen/ball pool 🙈 was also great if I needed 5 mins to drink a cup of tea and he loved it

Ours didn’t crawl but did cruise early, and our living room is upstairs with everything else downstairs. We got a robust fitted stair gate top and bottom, but mostly just baby proofed every room of the house and let her roam free.

I almost had a heart attack today when I came out of the toilet to discover my 9 month old non crawler half way up our staircase. In the space of 2 minutes he had cruised round the edge of 2 rooms to get to the bottom of the stairs and then climbed up. We had put a stairgate at the top of our stairs but not thought to put one at the bottom. Luckily he was fine but I am going to keep a very close eye on him now!

QuestionableMouse · 18/08/2020 20:54

We varied between a walker, a travel cot and a play pen. Both liked the travel cot the best (it had toys in, not just the cot.)

It got nicknamed baby jail 😂😂

doadeer · 18/08/2020 20:58

I would just proof your lounge and have her in there with you. High chair if in kitchen.

Eventually you'll need to remove all unsuitable things within reach so may as well do it now. I always left things out I didn't mind my son messing up in the TV stand etc. It would keep him occupied and I knew it wasnt dangerous.

We bought a playpen like this but use it to go around the room rather than a play pen so it covers the fireplace, side table and TV cabinet and she has the rest of the room and the sofas to roam around. I then take it apart on a nighttime and it's back to a 'grown up' living room xx
