5 months? 6 months? Anyone know?

My DS is 4 months but I don't feel he has enough neck control yet.

They need to be able to sit and hold themselves up - for as long as they are in the high chair, not just for a few minutes. Around six months but could be a bit earlier or later, four months is too early. Don't rush it, it's back for their spines.

Recommended age for starting food is 6 months.

You can get some reclining type high chairs where they wouldn't need to hold themselves up, but they can sit at the table with you while you eat. Kind of like a baby bouncer but higher.

I went for when they can hold their head steadily and can sit semi unaided. For me it was when baby boy was about 5/6 months old but it depends on the child. Mine could cope with sitting at 4 months but not for very long (I have a Tripp trapp so it might be slightly different to a standard highchair)

DD was 5.5 months. We started getting her used to it before weaning at 6 months.

It depends on the type of chair and the individual baby though.
