Cot next to window or radiator?

Please be kind as I know neither is ideal.
Due to Covid my husband has lost his job, meaning we can no longer move as we were planning to. DD2 was born during April, and I have A 2.5 DD. They will now (when DD2 is old enough) have to share a fairly small room.
I can’t for the life of me figure out how to lay it out with the cot either being in the alcove/partly infront of the window or next to the radiator.
I know neither is ideal but DD1 has a full sized single so there is no other way to position it :(

Could you do a sketch of the room layout? It might help with suggestions on how to help.

Is there any way you can move DD1's bed closer to the window/radiator so DD2 is away from them?

Window. Radiator is much more dangerous due to overheating - much easier to keep warm by the window with extra layers.

How much of the window is obscured? I would probably go with next to the radiator and turn it off.

Or could you swap rooms, would that work?

Would it make a difference if DD1 was in a toddler bed instead of the single? It would probably last another couple of years. I'd say window rather than radiator as especially in winter the radiator is likely to be on while she is in bed. Just make sure it's safe so window restrictor, no curtains near the cot and blind cords secure and out of reach. Alternatively could she stay in your room a bit longer until you move?

SoloMummy · 17/08/2020 08:00

Why can't the cot be in your room?

fmlfmlfmlfm · 17/08/2020 08:00

Does the window have child safety locks on? So they don't use the bed as a climbing frame? And can the radiator be turned down to number 2 or 3?

You will not be the first or the last to have to do this. Just be aware. X

Definitely window - now summer is nearly over you won't get as much direct sunlight in the window and won't need the window open.
Can you fit a child-safe blind to it? Do you have locks on the windows?

As we'll soon be in autumn/winter the radiator will be on a lot, so high risk of over heating

Partly in front of a window is fine as long as it isn’t drafty and if it is maybe some good thick curtains would help. We didn’t have a lot of room but had our babies in with us for the first 6 months and their crib wasn’t in front of the window but on the wall just along from it.

Yesterdayforgotten · 17/08/2020 08:09

Oh forgot to say as long as baby won’t reach the curtains from crib or maybe just go with blind and obviously safety cord holder or opposite side the baby won’t be in front of.

on*

Definitely NOT the radiator! 🤷‍♀️ surely that's a given

I'd probably just keep the cot in your room for longer

My dd2 was by the radiator, both in our room and when she shared with her sister. I turned it off when she went to bed. I now know without looking that clockwise is off!
