Rash on return to cloth after four days in disposables...

Have been away for a few days so have had both children (26 and 8 months) in Moltex nappies while we were away.

DS used to come up in a slight rash when he was younger (fine this time) when he was back in cloth but DD looks like she has sunburn. It isn't nappy rash as it's mainly on her legs and round her tummy.

She went back in cloth nappies at lunchtime yesterday and by lunchtime today I decided to put her back in Moltex. I've smothered her in hypoallergenic baby lotion and put her to bed in a Moltex.

She's been unusually grizzly today so I think she is uncomfortable. Poor love is probably really itchy.

Any advice?

My ds get s this sometimes too. Have you tried Sudocrem? Its magic stuff. Apparently kids are more prone to nappy rash if they are a bit off colour, teething etc. I also find ds gets pink if he has been hot or in his car seat for a while in a cloth nappy. You didn;t use bio power in the wash by accident?

What do you soak your nappies in Gem?? Could it be whatever washing powder you use??

Thanks for your replies.

It's not nappy rash as it's not on her bottom. It can't be the washing powder as we've always used Persil non-bio. I'm sure it's a reaction to having wet cloth against her skin as opposed to disposables. It used to happen to DS too whenever we went away then put him back in cloth nappies when we got home. Presumably didn't happen this time because he is older and doesn't have sensitive skin anymore.

It sounds very much like the rash my ds used to get with cloth nappies. Eventually I gave up on them because of it. Do you have any fleece liners? I found ds was a bit better when I used them, presumably because his skin stayed drier. Apart from that all I can think of is using some sort of barrier cream for a little while to see if she can tolerate the wetness again after a few days (e.g. vaseline, sudocrem).

I've got exactly the same thing and was about to post on it. It's like sunburn on the tummy and round the legs. We use fleece liners but they don't cover the tight bit round the legs.

We had been fine with the cloth nappies until recently when DS2 started teething. I've sanitised them every which way in case it was a bacteria thing - tea tree, nappy sanitiser, vinegar etc. I wondered if it might be the nappy wraps, and you can't bleach those. And we only ever use Ecover non bio powder which he is fine with on his clothes.

My baby is 8.5 months. Maybe it is a teething thing?

I find a few days in disposables + green baby nappy balm soon puts things to rights, but I don't want to have to dump my cloth nappies.
