title says it all really! and it's disgusting, bits of broccoli and carrot all over my knickers and my husband's shirts!

so, here's what I have been doing - what should i do differently?

  • haven't used a paper liner, just a fleecy one, because the bf poo just stained the paper yellow and still went all over the nappy. poo is still super-runny, it just has lumps in now!

  • dry pail, without rinsing or anything

  • cold rinse for nappies on their own (about 10 minutes)

  • shove in other washing, wash at 40

What do I need to do differently?

Lol I remember this, although i always washed the nappies seperately so I at least didnt have carrotty knickers!

I would hold the fleece liner over the loo and wipe with loo roll to get rid of most of the lumps, then just dry pail. I would occasionally try to rinse under flush but never really got the hang of that without covering my hands in poo. If your shower head reaches the loo then thats a great way of rinsing off the worst bits before dry pailing (but it is more effort than just chucking the nappy in a bucket!)

After a few weeks though (and once dd got an obsession with pasta) the poo got a lot stickier-although still basically liquid and then i started using paper liners cos i found it just too gross to deal with.
Don't worry, the poo does thicken up eventually!

I find my nappies wash better on their own. If I put other washing in, it's never enough to make it a full load so the load can circulate (and the carrots can make their way out of the drum

My DS was producing easy to mange firm poo. Then he started teething and its never gone back

oh god, do i really have months of wiping nappies with loo paper ahead? sounds really grim!

x posts mozzybear!
we have a machine with a really big drum and i find it really difficult to use it so empty! maybe i need a bigger nappy bucket (though storing poo-ey nappies for even longer sounds grim too!)

Do you have your nappies in a washing mesh and do you have it fastened. I leave mine loose, that helps get nappies circulating in the drum.

Never had a problem with carrots... banana however...

nappyzone · 03/10/2007 19:22

i too wash my seperatly as i can justify it in my little drum - however, not liking carroty food rolling round after the cold rinse i open up the washer and wipe round the door seal and remove offending carrot mush poo - job done, maybe you could try this when washing with your clothes.... i am lazy though and unless it falls of in 3 shakes it stays on and goes in the washer

Flamesparrow · 03/10/2007 19:32

Disposable liners for the cross over period!

littlefrog · 04/10/2007 16:17

ok, i'll have a go with disposable liners (no poo today at all...) and wiping round the seal sounds like a very good idea, I'll do that too. Thank you!

Have you had the carrot/banana/broccoli etc in the aplix yet?? Now that takes some getting rid of!

nappyzone · 04/10/2007 17:47

yeah brocolli in the aplix urghh! we have that alot!

Eckythump · 04/10/2007 18:03

You can get flushable liners which are like thick loo paper - these are good for catching lumpy bits. Also, I run my machine on an empty boil wash about once every six months - it cleans away any 'residue' which collects over the six months while the machine is run on fairly low temps. Not very environmentally friendly I suppose, buit I think it makes the machine more efficient, so perhaps not so bad.

mozzybear · 04/10/2007 20:03

Blueberry skins are awful too... when you evetually reaslise that what they are.

Brocolli sounds grim though!

And that bit of poo that sits on the door seal while the washer is in action and you're left praying that it washes away.

nappyzone · 04/10/2007 20:43

lol mozzy - urghhh - i pray but my sons logs never do!

curlywurlycremeegg · 04/10/2007 21:03

I'm a real nappy slut with no liners, scraping or soaking and I never have bits of food on washed nappies, do wash them on their own though

spookthief · 04/10/2007 21:07

mozzy - I thought that was just me! Dh is v lazy with the poo/toilet thing and some days I just can bear to deal with it when they've spent 2 days festering in the napppy pail.

Watching the poo sitting in the door is just so grim. It always seems to go eventually though

spookthief · 04/10/2007 21:09

To clarify, I'm talking about dh dealing with ds's nappies. He's very conscientious about putting his own poo in the toilet obv
