Vests In summer

Seems a silly question, but does a baby always have to wear a vest under clothing?? Like when it's so warm is it okay for them to just wear a jumpsuit for example with no vest?

Of course! And they can wear a vest on its own if it’s hot too

There are lots of guides online about what to dress your baby in depending on temperature. If it is above 23 degrees I would have mine only in a sleeveless babygro. Being too hot is much more dangerous for a baby than being too cold hence the guidance about keeping the room they sleep in below 23 and ideally below 21.

Yeah it's not possible to keep the room she sleeps in below 23 when it's been over 28 outside. We keep the window and curtains shut in the room and it can still be 24 in here on a night time. So obviously we just adjust what she is wearing when it's so warm

They don't have to wear a vest but I find that if I don't put a bodysuit on my baby his nappy falls down/gets loose. I tend to just dress him in a bodysuit on hot days and not bother with an outfit unless we're going out. In the garden I dress him in a sun protection suit because he crawls about everywhere and won't stay under his covered area!

Honestly I wouldnt worry about rules too much. Recently my baby has just been in a vest during the day. Sometimes just a nappy. Last night he slept in just a nappy. Generally (and in normal temperatures) he hasnt worn a vest under his sleepsuit for a long time.

I think just go with how your baby feels.

I was told one extra layer when it’s cold and one less layer when it’s hot.
That assumed your layers are the same efficiency as theirs but if you are sitting in a skimpy vest they don’t need anything on.

But mainly how can you wear a skimpy vest with a small baby, should you not still be eating your body weight in biscuits every day??
