Should I wake my 4 week old FF to feed?

My DD is 4 weeks old tomorrow. I wake her every 3 hours or so to feed but she could sometimes easily sleep for longer. Should I let her?

She did have jaundice in the first couple of weeks. At 10 day appointment she had gone above birth weight and was cleared of jaundice. From trying to weigh her myself, I think she's now about 10lb (born 8lb 5oz).

Golden rule: never wake a sleeping baby.

If she’s sleeping fine, don’t wake her. She will wake up when she’s hungry.

Is she feeding well and generally gaining weight well?

I had a troublesome, very thin feeder as my first and when we got to 5 weeks the paediatrician told us we could leave her to sleep as she would wake when hungry.

At 4 weeks you are probably good to just leave. I do know the anxiety though

If it was me I would let her go 4 hours before waking to feed through the night and 3 hours in the day.

If you are worried then record the amount she is feeding now and try letting her sleep longer and see if she is still taking as much formula. Bigger feeds less often is not a problem.

If she feeds well and regularly in the day and is gaining weight then leave her.

We’ve all been there, wide awake, desperate for sleep, watching a sleeping baby wondering what to do Smile

She currently has 2.5 - 4 oz. I only have a rough estimation of her weight as HV aren't doing weigh ins in my area. From what I've seen she is gaining weight.

I would leave to sleep at night and feed if it got to 4 hours during the day

I wouldn't wake a 4 week old if they were doing well in terms of weight gain and nappy output. I would wake after 6 hours overnight but I doubt you will ever need toGrin

My DD was born before lockdown and the advice was as soon as they have passed their birth weight you can stop waking them up for a feed. Not that helpful if you can't weigh her but for me this happened at about two weeks I think. You know her the best, try it for a couple of days and see how she goes you may notice her feeding more at a different time!! Good luck!

I had to wake her to feed her until she was 3.5 months old. She always gained weight v well but because she was small the feeds were v important and couldn't be missed

The old adage "never wake a sleeping baby" is fine.... but in reality some babies are sleepers and if u don't wake them they won't get fed enough. Feed is more important. They will go back to sleep after!

The benefit was my choosing her feed times and not doing the feeding on demand thing is we fell into a great routine together and 9 months on she still has a great routine and still
sleeps really well.

As above I had to wake my LO. She had prolonge jaundice and she was feeding little through out the day.

Wake to feed in the day, keep it light and chatty.

Never wake a sleeping baby at night unless it’s medically necessary!
