How do you use your Sleepyhead and is it safe?

I am reading so much conflicting information. Some say that the Lullaby Trust have stated that items such as the Sleepyhead increase the chance of SIDS, yet many say it is a life changing item they cannot live without. I am contemplating using it for daytime naps as we will have a bedside crib for night, but can’t understand if it is safe to use on a sofa or should it be on the floor? The guidance is very vague, and I just wondered how other people use theirs? And are you not concerned with the supposed risks?

@Metallicalover

No one said that is you're a breastfeeding mum that doesn't smoke that will stop a baby suffocating.

What if you do breastfeed and you don't smoke, that means that you risk when using a sleepyhead is incredibly minimal, and therefore some parents may take that risk over the risk of a non sleeping baby and being sleep deprived

Both my exclusively breastfed babies have had dummies pretty much from birth, DS1 fed to 18 months and DS2 is still going at 15 months. You have to do what works for you in an informed way.

Babies also suffocate because exhausted parents fall asleep whilst holding them. Sometimes it's not risk v no risk it's risk A v risk B.

@cantstopsinginglittlebabybum where did you see 12 deaths? I see sleep positioners linked to 12 deaths but that’s not the same as a sleepyhead.

I used a sleepyhead on a large sofa for day naps. I loved having him just there. I always watched him and we didn't use for overnight naps.

They definately aren't a must buy item in my mind.

What's interesting is, I took apart a bedside cot and sleepy head to wash for my sister and the mattress felt identical in them both. So I think the argument that it's not firm enough is a bit shaky. But I understand about them struggling to breath at the side which are raised.
