To hate this hot weather with baby

It’s so stressful! DS (3.5 months) is in shorts and a t shirt and I’m not sure if that’s too much. I’m too scared to go out in the car because I’m worried about the sun on him (our car window is a funny curved shape and I can’t get a shade that covers it fully). I’m also worried about him sitting outside, after reading on another thread that it’s possible for babies to get burnt even in the shade and to be damaged by the UV rays. We’re meant to be meeting relatives in a restaurant tomorrow for lunch and I’m dreading it for DS’s sake, as he will have to go in a hot car then pram. AIBU to long for this heatwave to be over?

I have my 3.5 month old in a strappy romper, in the shade with a pram fan clipped onto wherever I can or just indoors :)

Agree it’s hard work though!!

Yep. I've got a 7 month old and I just can't be bothered with anything! The humidity is what gets to me!

I’ve got 5 month old in just a nappy - it’s 30 degrees inside the house!

It’s fucking awful. He won’t sleep, eat or play happily. I don’t blame him, this is shit.

Eggcellent29 · 07/08/2020 16:53

Oh and I’ve canfelled all plans for the next few days - I’m not dragging the poor thing out in this heat, if people want to see him they can come here!

A Baby can't get burnt in the shade.

6 week old is in bed in just a nappy and a short romper. No blankets or sleeping bag tonight. The fan is on full blast and it's still over 27'C.

Hardest part is when he gets hot and uncomfortable but can't be soothed because cuddling makes him hotter. Poor grumpy baby.

We've been hiding in the house, but I feel guilty for not making the most of the 'nice' weather, and I know I'll be kicking myself next time I'm stuck in the house with two children on a wet day. Can't win.

You can get mesh things that slide over the top of car doors on amazon and they fit any shaped car door :)

DS is 4.5 months. We’ve been home with a short sleeved romper today (25). Tomorrow is predicted 28 so will be in a nappy at home I suspect. I hate the heat so it’s an excuse to stay in!

I’ve been out a couple of times in the heat and I’ve just kept DS in shade and minimal clothing. He does love lying and staring at trees so we do sit in the shade of a tree sometimes and just watch the leaves

It’s not easy when it’s hot and I remember being the same with my first as they were born in a heatwave. Now with DC2 I would try to relax a little bit. Heat can make them tetchy but they will be absolutely fine- babies are born in hot countries to homes with no air con all the time. If you cancel and avoid plans you’ll be home entertaining a hot grumpy baby for hours and it’ll feel worse. I’d stick to plans- a change of scene might do you all good. The restaurant hopefully will have air con. Get out to breezy or shaded places (seafront, covered woods, park in the trees etc) with baby in pram with hood up and in a single vest or similar. Girls easier as you can put a thin cotton dress but could do similar with a boy. Use a fan in front of a bowl of ice to cool the room and have regular tepid baths. It won’t last forever.

Raindancer411 · 07/08/2020 22:10

10 week old in a nappy and room is 29C!!! I cannot seem to cool it further. Windows open and a fan blowing in the room to circulate air

EnglishRain · 07/08/2020 22:29

Three week old here who has been in a nappy only all afternoon. Luckily downstairs is 25.5, we will probably sleep down here tonight. She wants to be held constantly. If I put her down she does feeding cues, so I feed her and then she promptly falls asleep on me again!

No help for tomorrow but window socks work brilliantly for shade. Although we’re actually going to get tinted film applied to our car rear windows to finally resolve the issue.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 07/08/2020 22:34

You can also drive with your car windows open and still have shade with windows socks
