Will we need a double buggy?

Second baby is due early February and toddler DD will be 2y3m when they are born. DD is a really good walker but gets tired easily.

I was thinking that we’d be able to use a carrier for the newborn with DD in the pushchair we already have when needed but not sure how practical that will be, especially in the early weeks following a C-section (when DH is here it won’t matter but I very much like going out without him some time’s!)

Has anybody got experience with that sort of age gap? And if you’d recommend a double buggy, which would you recommend? (We currently have a Cosatto wow so not able to convert to a tandem unfortunately)

Thank you

Mine had a similar age gap. We got a buggy board which worked great

Pretty much the same age gap- 2y4m. One of the best things we had was the double buggy!!! Very fortunately for me my friend gave me hers for free but if she hadn't I'd have bought one. My 2yo was in no way compliant enough to stand on a buggy board - it was much easier to just strap him in the buggy and go! Plus I'd had a c section so wasn't keen on using a carrier immediately while my incision was healing. I would highly recommend!

The one I have is an Out n about nipper - apparently the same width as a wheelchair so can navigate most places with relative ease, lightweight and the seats can be fully reclined to flat so useable from birth. I really like it!

We had a 21 month age gap, so smaller than yours. I managed with a single plus sling for the first 8 months before giving in and getting a double - DC2 just got too heavy in the sling when pushing a buggy. It's a 2 year 9 month gap to DC3 and we haven't used the double at all, admittedly partly because of lockdown. You are somewhere in between, so I suspect it will depend on what sort of things you want to do.

We found the double most useful for longer days out or days when you need to walk fuether, when otherwise the older DC gets tired and incredibly whiny and possibly tantrums because they want to go in the buggy. I also found that it also avoids a battle with the youngest DC - if the older DC isn't in the buggy they want to get out too. If the older DC is in the buggy they'll sit their happily. We had the Baby jogger City Mini double which was great for days out as it's easy to push and you have 2 equal fully reclining seats, which are big enough to do up to age 4 (and I've had my older niece in it). Downside is it is wide and therefore not good for narrow shops. For short popping into the shop trips etc I used a single plus board - but from the age DC2 was 18 months I'd often have 2 kids on the board and none in the buggy....

We have this. You can buy 1 car seat for baby and it comes with buggy seat for your daughter or a buggy board/ seat with a strap

My experience......I have 2 years exactly between mine and now they are 2.5 and 6months. I definitely needed the double buggy. We have a third hand baby jogger city mini double (with carrycot attachment for first 4 months) and it has been great. My 2 Year old is a good walker but quite unpredictable so I need somewhere to strap him in sometimes. I also wouldn’t be able to run after him and lift him into the buggy during a tantrum if I was wearing the baby carrier.

This question gets asked a lot and for me it was always about sleeping. I have a 22 month gap. Assumed we would manage with sling and gave it little thought till friends offered first dibs on theirs and mentioned naps.

My older one still napped at least an hour till he was 3.5 and being able to put both of them down to sleep while out about was brilliant. We used the double (Mountain Buggy Duet) for a year because of this.
