Well, in previous post I stated that I am looking into Social Work or OT....but well...looking around more and more at the University website and looking at the courses...there is such a vast choice, and so many things that appeal to me....obviously got to find out more about it all....
what do people study and what will you do with it?

Also, here a few courses I am finding appealing right now, but wiht some, I sort of don't know what you could actually do with that degree....

forinstance Philosophy? Sounds really interesting, but, in what industry could you use it? Also, why would a Philosophy student have to be a keen interest in photography and visual arts? (It states this on the Website...)....the way I understand the course it's about thinking outside the box, etc....so...what is the photography thing about?

Psychology also seems very interesting....especially as they offer this also as a joint BA/BSc (Hon)...is tehre anyone studying it, and what are your plans, why did you choose this subject?

Social Care or Social Welfare...also offered as a joint honours...might be a good one to take with Psycholgy? Anyone doing that? What do you think, etc...?

Sociology (again also offered as a joint honours, possibly wellmatched with psychology?)...how does this tranlate into employment?

As you can see...I am very very confused....lets hope that teh open day will shed some light for me....

Adult nursing

I have an english degree which was more fun to do.

Have you considered radiography?

3ScaryMonstersAndNoMore · 03/10/2007 17:39

radiography...haven't really...but think they actually offer a degree course in Northampton...so, will tkae a peak!

Jazzi...crimonology...now Northampton offers that as a joint one...and have been looking at that with psychology....not sure it would be for me...but interesting non the less...

good luck dusty

Criminology is a fantastic course - incorporates so many elements such as history, economics, law, Psychology, sociology and women's studies. I would recomend it!!

dustystar · 03/10/2007 18:01

3monstersandnomore, you are in a muddle aren't you?! You sound a bit like me, want a big change but not sure what, I think I would like OT but how about Physio? Have you got a local career advisory service someone to have a chat to?

3andnogore · 03/10/2007 21:13

3D...yup...in a muddle that is for sure....
I sort of thini gand think and think, and well....just don't know what to do, lol....I assume tehre is some career advice/course advice at teh University...so, will find out about that on Saturday and that might clarify things...
Physio is not available at that University...although 1 of teh many courses that would interest me is called Health & Exercise...

I suppose I just want to get it right, lol....I mean, it will be so much harder this time...what with being older, having 3 Kids to look after and a hubbie, etc...so, if I spend time studying it has got to be worth while on all levels, lol...

3andnogore · 03/10/2007 21:14

sorry for keeping namechanging...btw...this will be it till after Halloween though

Jazzicatz · 04/10/2007 12:45

I am currently reading for a PhD, have both a degree and masters in criminology - I hope to go on and lecture within a university.

3andnogore · 04/10/2007 14:48

Jazzi..how cool

Well....after getting myself into such a twist about this all...I am almost sure that I will end up doing OT...because...I really think it will be somehting I will enjoy...I think, it sort of takes the good bits that I really liked about Nursing and that made em choose Nursing all those years ago, but it doesn't have the bad bits to it...and obviously it also offers such a variety within hte same field,etc...at teh open day I will stilllook at other things to make sure I get it right...but well...am almost sure now...and that is a good thing

Just wanted to say that I went to the Open day at the University and it was an exciting day....went of Social work course though, mainly to do with the person representing it, however, will apply for the OT course, the lady was amazing and even more amazing was, when I asked about the general and m personal chances to be taken on in that course (due to not that many uni's offering it, wondering about prescription rate to ratio....) she basically told me, that with my previous experiences and Qualification she would take me on teh course under the condition that I do a study skills course (which will show I am still able to work at degree entry level as well as giving me skills in esays writing, etc...), she told me she can't see how they wouldn't invite me for an Interview and how I wouldn't do well in that....so, very positive really!
It was funny, because when I signed into teh Helath departement, I put down OT/Social work and the girl there said, oh I just knew you were putting your name down for that, you just look like that sort of person lol...wondering now what those people are meant to look like, other then like me, of ocurse, rofl)
Anyway, am very excited...althoguh the one that represented the early childhood studies honours degree really sold that one to me, as well...she was a fabulous speaker, so passionate and lovely too....but OT it will be for me
