Hi all, I've recently bought a Phil and Teds dash double pram. My second will be born beginning of November, and wondering if I need to buy the cocoon for him or is there a cheaper/better solution? I've read that lots of babies grow out of it quick! Could I use a cosy toes or something? Any advice welcome, thanks :)

Ooooh can I ask how you’re getting on with the Dash double? I’ve just had my second and thinking of getting it but have heard mixed reviews... Thanks!

I had the model before (voyager?) and I personally think you do need the cocoon For the newborn, especially on the lower seat-I wouldn’t have felt that the baby was safe without it.

Check marketplace though-They come up a lot locally for about £10. They are useful ok the house too-I used to carry my son about in it so he could always be next to me for naps-he loved sleeping in there! Stopped using it at about 5m.

The cocoon is nice and great for a new born - best part is you just lift them out asleep when you take your toddler inside...

They are fairly small though and lots of babies grow out of them by 4 - 5 months.
There are lots on eBay though and a godsend for the first few months ( as you get the hang of getting out and about with 2!

You have few options
If you are planning on the main seat reclined, toddler seat in the front then warm footmuff with some kind of hood that can protect the newborn from the elements should be enough. You may use a little mattress for extra comfort.Main seat is quite cocconed anyway by allthe fabric around when it's reclined although the material on the back is quite flimsy. In more extreme weather, raincover will protect baby anyway.
Another option is carrycot which dash is designed to accommodate,I think it can be positioned on top and bottom seats.

I think so, I bought it second hand but the manual says voyager and it looks like that but grey!

It’s a good sturdy buggy, easy to manoeuvre and fold etc. Thing is my baby was born in April 2020 so it’s only really been used for dog walks from the house which it’s been fine for. It’s quite big, I’m not sure I’d want to go shopping with it, probably true of any double though (or more to the point 2 kids 😂). I also wouldn’t fancy lifting it in and out of the car on a regular basis (I’ve never done this, it would fit fine but be heavy).

So sturdy, feels safe and nice to push, but also a bit heavy would be my summary. Hope that helps!

@Sian1603 sorry just seen this! Personally I hate the dash double! Got the newborn in the main seat lying flat, toddler on top and it's so top heavy and hard to push. The main seat ripped within about 2 months of having it just by getting it in the car (but p&t have replaced it now), personally I wish we hadn't bought it and had gone for something else - but don't know what I would go for and also can't afford it! Hope that's helped your decision :)

@Laur89 no idea if you will see this, but just wanted to ask how you’re getting on with the dash now? I bought one in a panic this week due to having a six week old and a toddler and I hate it! I am so worried it’s going to tip over. I’m in London and there’s no way I could get it on and off a bus safely on my own, even going up a kerb is hairy.

Hi @Nightmanagerfan
I actually stopped using my Dash back in the spring, and sold it a few weeks ago because I hated it so much! My toddler is 3 now and I have a 13 month old, who we just put in a joie stroller, it folds with one hand and is just the best pushchair! The Dash would be so hard to push when the toddler was on top and the newborn was in the lie flat bit. Kept feeling like it would topple 🤣 also found it really bulky to fold, and heavy!!
Sorry to hear you hate yours, is it the 2019 model?

@Laur89 thanks for the reply! Interesting you’ve sold yours. Im going to persevere a bit as my mum paid for it and I can’t face telling her that I hate it. Yes it’s the 2019 model.
I’ll look at the Joie. We have a v old mountain buggy we got for free so I might just use that and sell the dash in a bit. I really wish I’d done more research before buying it, but was in a rush due to having a toddler and newborn!
All the best with your two
