Hello,

FTM to be and little baby is a little boy and honestly I have 0 experience around little boys, I'm an only child and the little children I have been around have been little girls (it's kinda a thing in the family to have girls haha) so what's it like having a little boy? I wanna know the good, the bad and the ugly haha all I know is when I change his nappy I need to cover his bits or I'll be weed on haha

Thank you

Other than pointing things downward during nappy changes, I think they're all individuals. Enjoy him. I found boys can be slightly cuddlier, but that's probably just my experience.

I have 6 children, a mix of boys and girls.

Kids are kids, they are all different and unique. Theres nothing to know about boys in particular until the sex/puberty discussions really.

Enjoy your baby.

They are just a child like any other child, you will find out in time their personality, likes and dislikes. Just beware of where they are weeing at nappy time.

I only have DS so I don't have anyone else to compare with. Definitely point Percy down (the midwifes words!) when putting a new nappy on but I've heard that girls are capable of fountains too. Boy or girl, there's lots of love and lots of fun. I know more now than I have even known about diggers and tractors and I think I could win mastermind with my dinosaur knowledge. He has me in stitches every day with his antics but my friends daughters are equally bonkers too!

My son is only 3. He's a live wire, as is his sister, he's also incredibly sweet - tonight at bedtime we read a book called Grumpy Cat, then he went to sleep miaowing like Kitten from the story. Congratulations on your baby boy.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 02/08/2020 22:01

I wouldn’t get too worried about it. You won’t know what your child will like until he’s here and old enough to start expressing a preference.

My DS isn’t a ‘stereotypical‘ boy at all. Not really a climber, hates getting dirty, isn’t particularly physical. Some of his female toddler chums are much hardier and braver!

He’s super sweet with his cuddly toys, is very cuddly and affectionate with me and is a massive bookworm. He’s sensitive, almost to a fault, and feels emotions keenly. He is utterly train obsessed, as are many 2 yr old boys, but that’s been quite fun.

But yeah, pee everywhere is probably the main difference! And it doesn’t get any better once they’re potty trained....

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 02/08/2020 22:11

I can't tell you any differences between baby boys and girls apart from the blindingly and boringly obvious (point his penis down and probably bypass the dresses section in John Lewis). But I can tell you that he will be the person to teach you about motherhood, he will love you and you will love him. Do him a favour and ignore all the gender bollocks as long as you can.

I have only sisters, no brothers and I'm a lone parent. My DS and I have much more in common than I do with one of my sisters. The puberty stuff he learnt at school, other than that a child is a child.

gonewiththerain · 02/08/2020 22:22

Mine is a total live wire into any thing and everything. Loves tools, mechanical things and banging things on other things. He also tells me he loves me frequently and he loves the baby in my tummy. Has spent much time recently carrying his doll round and pretending its a baby.
I know more about dinosaurs and diesel locomotives than I ever thought I would.
We sit and read a lot, he’s just turned 3 and is now really getting into drawing.
He’s got masses on energy but is so sweet and loving.

Rubyroost · 02/08/2020 22:23

I always imagined having a girl and when I got pregnant, this is what I wanted.

I've got two boys and they're gorgeous and I love them to bits. One is stubborn as hell, had always sought stimulation from the day he was born and is a bit of a nightmare (in his defence he is 2.5) the youngest I can tell is going to be be sensitive and chilled (again this was pretty obvious from day one)

Anthilda · 02/08/2020 22:37

Like @gonewiththerain says, you'll learn all about cars, trains, avengers, football, batman, trucks, stuff like that.

You might find the clothes a bit boring and samey once he gets past the stage of wearing cute character outfits etc.

Other than that, boys are the same as girls. Football, baking, climbing, running, bikes, computer games etc, all enjoyed by both girls and boys.

Pipandmum · 02/08/2020 22:48

A big generalisation but find boys are more active and fidgety- the don't sit still for long. My son was the only boy in our post natal group and played nicely with the girls, though was definitely more energetic. Once a boy joined and they were immediately running about hitting things with sticks! The girls were more compliant and happy to do things like draw and play together, the boys would destroy as many crayons as they could and end up rough housing.
Of course kids have their own personalities, and I am being general. I raised three boys and a girl, I have two sisters, and my friends have a good mix of children of both sexes, and the generalisations are more or less accurate across the board. I also find with boys that you can tell what they are thinking and girls are sneakier!
There are some good books out there about raising boys which you may find useful. But all kids really want is love and support, no matter what their personality.

Cutesbabasmummy · 03/08/2020 10:13

I am.also an only child and we also wanted a girl. I had no experience of little boys at all. He is 5 and a half now and has always been a huge bundle of energy. He needs a good run around at least once a day! But he also enjoys arts and crafts and his teachers have said that he is very imaginative, has great concentration and a pleasure to have in the class. He loves a cuddle on the sofa, likes a Disney film, loves to dance and he will spontaneously give us a kiss or a cuddle because he loves us! You will probably learn a lot about superheroes and dinosaurs. Mind you last week he watched 4 episodes of Barbie's Dream House! Honestly you will think he us the best thing ever when he arrives! I wouldnt swop mine !
