lilibet - the lack of allocation letter wasn't a problem? Have lost mine too...

lilibet · 10/10/2007 23:47

wasn't even checked. The only thing that was checked was my photo ID

Good Luck!

Why is it not good to spend an hour on each question??! That's why we get three hours innit??!

I did Qs 2, 4 7 for K204 today.. which nobody will care about because nobody else is doing K204 on here are they? They were social exclusion, resilience and disability. I nearly slid of my seat in relief when I saw the disability one.. that's what I know most about!

I spent first twenty minutes writing three essay plans to reassure myself I could drivel semi-intelliently about those questions. Then I wrote out the ten quotes I had learnt word-for-word(ish) about the 7 course themes so they were there to shove in, into semi-appropriate places. (Got this advice off the K204 forum via the OU website.. some previous K204 student recommended doing it from advice from her tutor.)

I then did a lot of waffling and a bit of quoting until I got to q10 (disability) where I think I might have written something semi-sensible. That will be where my marks lay if anywhere.

Heard some woman outside droning on about how she hopes hers was worth at least 70% so she could hold out for her 2:1 (or is it 1:2?) degree! I thought God! I'll be satisfied with any kind of pass, even scraping thro at 40%.. after the year of "minimum study" that I've had!!

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 11/10/2007 16:53

Oh and I went to the loo as well.. they had said we could.. and lots of people did and I felt the urge after the first two questions so popped off quickly so I didn't have it on my mind for the last q!

me23 · 11/10/2007 19:31

I know what u mean about minimal study! I had my exam today I did questions 1, 6, and 8, which were home carers, record-keeping and beveridge with reference to sexism and racism.

I have to say I managed to write for the whole time so hopefuilly there will be enough in there to get 40%!

I'm so relieved the day is over I got so worked up with it all.

no more study! well at least till november I then starting sk195 human genetics and health.

lilibet · 11/10/2007 19:44

well done for getting thru it both of you!

Shiny, I was wrong spending an hour on each question as the marks aren't weighted evenly, we get 50% of the marks for one question and 25% each for the other two

OP posts:
ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 12/10/2007 13:44

Ah lili I get it. Our were weighted evenly.. (I think.. I hope!! )

Me23 your next course sounds fab. What degree are you doing? I would probably do well on a course like genetics/health.. I can remember those kind of facts much easier than any others.. must have been a medic in a previous life! Never wanted to work in medicine tho..

Mine is in Childhood and Youth Studies.

orangehead · 12/10/2007 14:56

shinyhappy - Im doing childhood and youth studies. Starting ed209 in feb. Have u done that one?

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 12/10/2007 15:05

Hi Orange.. no my 2 levels two have been U212 (last year) and K204 (this year). Starting K309 in Feb.

orangehead · 12/10/2007 16:03

shinyhappy- What r u planning to when u finished the degree? I did u212 last yr 2

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 12/10/2007 18:03

Orange, I have three more years to go I am planning something that involves working with children/families; probably re disability. Social work has been on my mind a lot lately (even though I really didn't want to do that originally) but I'm technically doing the wrong degree to be a social worker so I'd have to "top it up" if I wanted to do that.

How about you?

dustystar · 12/10/2007 18:09

Thank God that is over. I was too knackered yesterday to come on and i had my 10th anniversary to celebrate

My mind went blank and I waffled a bit but hopefully I've done enough to pass. At least i didn't completely panic this time

Good luck to anyone who still has theirs to come

orangehead · 12/10/2007 18:33

Shinnyhappy - Im the same want to work with children and families, poss disability or speacial needs but not to sure what exactly and where to go after degree. I have 4 yrs left but have just taken this yr out

lilibet · 15/10/2007 12:46

Chilimama - hope everythign is going ok!!

Thanks Lilibet

The exam went well (I think), luckily most of the stuff I revised properly came up so I was a happy bunny! Fingers crossed it will show in my results which come out on dd1's 3rd birthday.

Good luck to those of you who still have exams

lilibet · 17/10/2007 19:12

My results are out on my dd's birthday too

PollyLogos · 18/10/2007 05:56

Hope everyone has continued going well with exams. I was lucky in my exam yesterday as the (few) subjects that I had really revised well came up!! My handwriting was terrible though and I didn't have time to reread at the end but I feel fairy confident that I will pass.

Shiny - I've just done U212 and i am planning on doing K204 next any pearls of wisdom?? Have you enjoyed K204? I have really loved this years course.

lilibet · 18/10/2007 13:35

Rosa, I need to know how you ahve gone on, you're doing the course I fancy for next year.

OP posts:
me23 · 18/10/2007 17:29

shiny so sorry took so long to reply havent been on all week! the degree i'm doing is health and social care.
but hopefully sk195 will be my last course for 3 years as I have applied to uni to do degree in midwifery studies so am waiting to find out if I get in!

sk195 (the human genetics course) is a 10 point level 1 course, looks really interesting, am looking forward to starting it!

RosaTransylvania · 19/10/2007 00:13

Lilibet - It is done, over, and finished with! I don't really know whether I did a good job of the exam or not but there were enough questions on the paper that I was able to answer and I got writer's cramp and a blister by the end of the three hours.
My tip - make sure you have a comfortable pen!
Honestly, the course was great but there was an element of frustration in that it was such an overview - the minute you started to get your teeth into something you had to disengage them and move on to the next thing. It was all quite straightforward though and the exam presented no nasty surprises - if you were familiar with the course materials the questions were doable - nothing tricky to trip you up.
Now I have to choose next year's courses. I am thinking of taking on the full 120 points - has anyone else done this?
