Baby carriers

Hello, I'd really appreciate some advice! My baby is a tall 8 month old, who loves being carried in the sling. My back and neck are getting pretty sore so I'd like to buy a sturdier carrier, but I've found them so tricky to put on in the past. Does anyone have a recommendation for one that's really easy to put on? Thank you!

I've got a chunky 10 month old and can comfortably carry him in the ergo 360 for ages. It's very easy to put on!

We have a babybjorn carrier and that’s really easy to use! My DD is a chunky 8 month old and she’s very comfortable in it.

You’d be best with a “semi-structured carrier” - so not a firm frame but not a wrap one. Ergo or Tula would be my advice...I tried the ergo but I didn’t find it comfy (maybe because I’m on the larger side). I loved my Tula, it was so comfy.

Tula or manduca

Google your local sling library and go and try some out! It’s the best way and could save you from an expensive mistake.

Thank you everyone!

Yes, sling libraries would've been my first choice but lockdown got in the way! I'll see if any are planning to reopen any time soon though.

Are you wearing him on your back? I found once i flipped my dd to my back it qas so much better, she's nearly 3 and i still carry her on my back

PotteringAlong · 30/07/2020 09:58

@chocolateorage our local one in Durham has reopened - you can get postal hires!

Thank you @PotteringAlong! I've not tried back carrying because I'm so uncoordinated that I can't even do a buckle up behind me, so the thought of trying to put him on my back is stressful, no matter how many YouTube tutorials I watch! But I maybe just need to get a grip and practise!

Yes definitely back carry. I put baby on my front first then slowly shuffle/jiggle them around to the back. That way seems to work best when I'm on my own

PotteringAlong · 30/07/2020 10:19

I agree about back carrying! If your worried, practice next to your bed getting them up then you don’t have to worry about them falling.

I love my ergo omni 360. I have dexterity issues and can pop him in myself.

Google ‘it’s a sling thing’ - you can hire or you can trial a brand new one (if you think you know what you want) and either pay to keep or just send it back, so will only cost £15. Next best thing to our (still closed) sling library

Thanks for the great suggestions everyone!
