Gift for new mum

I have a client who has just had a baby girl, she already has a toddler so not a first time mum. I would love to send her a gift, it sounds like she’s had a traumatic birth so would like to send something for her, I have some options for baby but any suggestions are welcomed too.

I’m not a mum so have no idea what to send her and I think it’s easier for family and friends. Do I arrange for some flowers to be delivered or purchase something and send it to her? Would love any suggestions!

TIA X

For me flowers would be more work and she already has the most beautiful gift to look at.
Really posh shower gel and chocolate brownies would be my suggestion.

Post box brownies. Have a look on Etsy. I got some after my baby was born in lockdown so no visitors. They were delicious!

Thank you so much, I hadn’t thought of that with the flowers so great point especially as she’s had a c section don’t want to add anything unnecessary to her plate.

Best present (and only one I can remember), box of brownies and a handbag! Nothing for the baby! Perfect xx

Flowers would be lovely; how much work can it be to stick them in a vase? (I hate brownies! But if you're set on them look at blushingcook.com as hers are things of great beauty!)

Things I loved that were just for me - lovely sparkling wine and special wine (a bottle of grenache called The First Born). A friend made up a box of all the delicious things you can't have when pregnant that I was craving - oozy brie, cold meats, gourmet pate etc with crackers. Was so good! My mum bought me a lovely cosy cardi (winter baby) which I wore lots to snuggle up on the sofa whilst feeding. Always lovely getting flowers. Also nice toiletries - body butter, body scrub, nice shower gel etc. Anything to make you feel human again!

Honestly the best gift ever? A friend who came over and bought some delicious sandwiches for lunch. She did my washing up and said "after your next feed, let me hold your baby for a couple of hours so you can have a long shower and a lie down" - best thing ever.

I have always tried to do that now with friends who have babies - and I always make something like a lasagne to last a couple of nights to take round and put in the fridge (often always a little gift if there's a toddler too, something like a magic colouring set (the non mess kind) so they're occupied whilst the mum is feeding.

(just read properly that this is a client, not a close friend) I think maybe a gift basket with fancy toiletries / flowers / a bottle of something lovely if you know she drinks would all go down well. I recently sent a friend some lovely Sanctuary toiletries as I know she loves their stuff - it was packaged as a 'new mum kit'.

I generally go with fancy biscuits and fancy hand cream as that’s what I wanted. Biscuits are great as delicious but don’t spoil so a treat you can enjoy whenever it suits. Hand cream as lots of nappy changes (they poo loads at the start) means lots of hand washing for a while.

Box of posh brownies gets my vote.

Spa pampering products and as others said nothing for the baby. I always feel the Mum gets left out and especially after a second baby.

Yesterdayforgotten · 30/07/2020 08:14

Also you sound lovely, nobody got my anything after my second and had a traumatic time too not even my Mum Hmm

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 30/07/2020 11:35

She will have no time to use all these spa pampering products!

I vote some fancy cupcakes (you can get some delivered)

SqidgeBum · 30/07/2020 11:37

Anything that you would like to get for yourself for a friday evening, so bath stuff, or wine, or something chocolate based. I got my next door neighbour a bottle of gin when she had her second a few weeks ago. The girl was ecstatic.

Yesterdayforgotten · 30/07/2020 14:35

'She will have no time to use all these spa pampering products!'

True in one way but I think it is important to have some you time after giving birth and at least have someone watch baby while you have a salt bath. I would have actually really appreciated some extra nice products. Wouldnt have been bothered on random cupcakes though esp through the post Hmm

surreygirl1987 · 30/07/2020 16:41

Guess it depends on the person and OP knows her better than we do! I'd choose cupcakes 100x over spa stuff but that's me - OP's friend might be totally different!

OverTheRainbow88 · 30/07/2020 16:46

Flowers cause me more stress as I felt guilty not chopping their stems daily and changing their water so every time I saw them I felt bad 🤪!!

A voucher for cook, chocolates, relaxing bath salts, scented candle!

surreygirl1987 · 30/07/2020 16:52

Cook vouchers are a great shout. I'm less than 3 weeks post c section and struggling to get in and out of the bath so bath salts etc would be wasted right now, but I'm also really struggling to cook... so food would be a real bonus!

Yesterdayforgotten · 30/07/2020 16:58

I was the opposite, was dying for a salt bath but would happily eat the choccy while in there! I had been in hospital a while so was really missing home cooked dinners and would have appreciated some pre prepped meals more than sweet though.

surreygirl1987 · 30/07/2020 17:58

Ahhhh I remember after my first born I was in and out of the bath 2 or 3 times a day at first (only thing that soothed the pain after my episiotomy) so I guess it depends on the birth too! And I fully agree with eating choccies in the bath!
A friend of mine dropped off a homemade lasagne a couple of days after my second baby was born and it was so so amazing.

Bhbunny · 31/07/2020 22:18

Thank you all so much for your suggestions! Going to get something ordered for her tomorrow. She lives a good few hours away so will get something delivered. She had a c-section so think I may get her gift that she can enjoy now and then some extras for once’s she’s up and about abit more!

Thank you all have a fab weekend x
