Shaking of the head violently - is this normal?

I wasn't quite sure where to post this!

My son is 6 months old and has a developed an odd shaking of his head. He doesn?t do it all the time, it started a few weeks ago, when one day he would shake his head from side to side as in 'no' (quite violently) and kept doing it on and off for a day or so. Then it seemed to stop, but last week he started up again. He would do it either when he is sitting in his pram, or him sitting on your lap.

He started nursery a few weeks ago, so I am unsure if he picked it up from there, or whether it is a 'condition' or what it is?.

Anyone experienced the same or can offer any advice? I will take him to the docs later this week, but it is always good to ask other mums!

I think its just his new trick .. it feels funny so he's doing it

it will probably stop when he learns new trick

but as you are his mother, and you know him far better than anyone, mention it to GP if you want .. always best to double check

You can't really ask a six month old.. does he seem to be hearing you ok? You could get his ears checked if you are worried..

Agree with Twiglett. One of mine did this, stopped when she found something else more interesting to do.

My dd used to do this everytime we put the kettle on. She was about 8 months at the time iirc.

I'm with the other posters on this...my ds did this from about 8 months....thought he must have something wrong etc...but he hadn't he just liked the sensation it brought about...you try it and see what it does to you now we have moved on to twirling really fast then falling down on a pile of cushions!
just join in...lots of fun
