Long journey tips

Hi we have a 9 month old. We are about to do a long trip for the first time to see family (was going to be earlier than this but lockdown prevented this). We are aiming to set off just before his 1st nap and the drive is about 6 hours normally but know this will take longer due to needing stop roughly every two hours. I’m going to sit in the back with him but wondered if anyone had any tips for entertaining him/ general good tips.

I've just posted on a near identical thread! We do long journey to my parents by setting off at 5am and getting a big chunk of it out of the way while the DC are still asleep and the traffic is light. Longish break at a service station for breakfast, changing, teeth brushing etc and we can be there by mid-morning.

@DappledThings thanks. Yes just seen the other thread. We are planning to avoid service stations due to Covid (may not be avoidable if weather is rubbish) but hoping to take out stops outside so he can have a good stretch and food. He wakes up at 5.30 so not sure how much setting off at that point will help but thank you for the suggestion.

@Sunshine124 how are you going to have a wee all that time?

If it’s going to be sunny, use shades for the window. They will also protect from lights at night as well.
Take time to know your speaker system and how to balance front and back speakers.
If you’re using formula milk, the ready-made cartons can make life easier – just remember to pack some scissors!
Have a blanket to hand so that they can have a good stretch out on it during breaks
