our first day in cloth did not go well, any advice?

So I decided that today was the day to try out my new purchases.

I got my fuzzibunz and put the easy peasy terry insert inside a folded mf cloth and put it in. Zach was not really happy with me putting it on and tbh it was a bit too big for him. Anyway that did not matter too much as within 1hr he had done a pooh and so I had to change him

then I put on his HH with the same stuffing. I liked the fit and the ease of these and thought fabbo! anyway he goes to sleep and wakes up from his nap sodden! I was out so dh called and said that he was unimprssed with the hole episode and put a disp back on him

where did I go wrong? am I using the wrong stuffing? Zach is 18mths so we are coming late to this anyway,

Help!

I've found that with pocket nappies, particularly fuzzi's the fit is crucial so if they are too big they will leak often because they don't fit tightly enough around the leg.

I think it sounds like you need to put more stuffing inside your nappies, but obviously that will increase the bulk.

I presume a HH is a Happy Heiny, if so have you got a solid colour one, or is it a print one. IIRC the print ones have a cotton outer and so they can wick wetness.

I'm afraid it is all a bit trial and error really with cloth nappies. I have used pocket nappies, but I always return to 2 part systems because I find on my son they are more reliable.

Hopefully Nappyzone will be along soon as she is a pocket's expert. Don't be disheartened though you will work out what works best for your ds.

some one else has just said that they print happy heiny leak a bit more.

i did not really think that there was much more rrom in there to stuff! i think thta maybe i need to use different inserts. also i am not sure if i stuffed it right (i know that sounds daft!)

i know that 2 parters are really good but I would f/t so I need this to be as easy as poss for me and also we do not have a drier so i wanted them to dry easily

I use 2-parters usually but when I do use my Fuzzi Bunz I usually pad fold a terry square and use that for stuffing as well as the insert that came with it. HTH

I know nothing about HHs, the Fuzzi I agree with Tutu about the fit being crucial.

claireybee · 01/10/2007 11:05

If my dd is in a pocket i'll always change her before putting her down for a nap cos the pressure seems to cause leaks with us... you might find them fine when he is up and about.
Like tutu I always return to the 2 parts, but others swear by pockets so can probably offer you better advice

was it a onesize print or a fitted eg small med large adn what insert came with it? Print sized last only 2½ - 3 hrs or less ona mega peer, the new onesize or fitted solids with inserts are going up to 4 on me but averaging 3 hrs. You cant stuff wrong really - make sure you tug the nappy up nice and snug like a pair of pants and DO NOT try to poke the white rolled out fleece back in. The insert should go side to side with no gaps or the pee will just run down there legs. I use a green acre design in mine and they fit really well or as i said the onesize comes with inserts. I am unfamiliar with the insert you are using to comment - sorry... Finally ditch the poppered vests and get some big kids ones.

Fuzzi needs it to fit nice - fasten round legs first then around the tum - better luck next timeto try!

sporry rushed response but boy eating....

For what its worth i get more leaks with two parters - honestly

huglinson · 01/10/2007 13:58

it was a large HH and it did not come with an insert,

I think the fuzzi was way to big and having looked at it again I think he needs a petite toddler size.

would t be better to use inserts made for the individual nappy? what is the best allround insert for me to get staretd with?

Did the fuzzi not come with one of their own inserts? they seem to be pretty good. I tend to just put them in any pocket that they fit.

nappyzone · 01/10/2007 14:37

green acre design onesize for the heiny - the mediums HH last ages weight wise - is he just in large range as maybe still a toot big .... fuzzis ones ok if they came with one but a bit low on absorbancy i find so could slip a ellas house hemp under it or try a ptit dessous.... there all on my site for perusal..... hope u get sorted whatever you decide....

huglinson · 01/10/2007 15:46

he is about 24lb but slim he is still in 9-12 clothes

what is ur site?

the HH and the fuzzi did not come with inserts as they were 2nd hand

I had terrible probs with leaks when I started cloth nappies on my daughter - she had very slim legs. I changed brand to Tot Bots nippa which can go as tight as you like and fit really snugly, with a Motherease airflow wrap. I am now about to use them on my third child - they're fab. Just thought I'd share that with you, don't get dispondant

UniSarah · 01/10/2007 17:25

hugs- you don;t say what wrap you are using or are these all in one nappies that don;t need a wrap? Boy was soaked at chrech teh other day when a worker didn't realise he needed a wrap on top of teh nappy.

nappyzone · 01/10/2007 18:53

via the small ads or google nappyzone www.nappyzone. co.uk

nappyzone · 01/10/2007 18:54

mine is 22-23lb and he stillhas lifeinthe mediums - for a while i thought he would grow out but as he moves he has slimmed nicely back into them....

huglinson · 01/10/2007 21:56

these are pockets so they do not need a wrap

i am gonna try and get a few more 2nd hand nappies for my test pool!

The only pocket nappies that I got on with were the Nature Babies Stuffables. Anything else (Fuzzibunz, Happy Heinys) all leaked.
I personally prefer a two-part system (nappy and wrap) but can see that a stuffable/pocket nappy might be preferable to someone not used to reusable nappies.

huglinson · 02/10/2007 21:09

may try a nature babies then. I have posted on cloth tots for a sample of cheap pockets!

if your little one is slim then the fuzzi may just be too big. My dd still comfortably fitted a medium at 2 and she is skinny. I know a lot of babies never need the petite or large sizes, they are pretty big. Another good insert is the cotton babies one size microfibre insert its very absorbent.

huglinson · 04/10/2007 21:54

lailasmum you may be right, I used a petit on him tonight and it was a great fit and no leaks!
