I don't think she sounds ready really, but certainly feel free to encourage her and praise her when she does get it right.

With my two there was a bit of a delay between them realising that they were going to wee/poo and then realising that you actually do it with no nappy on into the toilet.
ds1 is 2.9 and just tonight went to bed with no nappy on so I think he's pretty much potty trained.
We used to let him wander in the bathroom, say 'mummy is doing a wee in the toilet' etc, for ages, then two weeks before we decided to go nappy free we started saying 'now in two weeks/10 days/one week/tomorrow you are going to be a big boy, not wear nappies, go on the toilet/potty like mummy and daddy. In that two weeks we took him shopping and he chose his own pants and we laid them out with his clothes the night before he went nappy free.
This is what worked for us, ds2 might be different. I am sure people will put posts on here with their own experiences then you can pick the ones that might suit you and your daughter best. Good luck!

Just keep on giving her opportunity to use potty. DD1 didn't get it till she was 2 1/2. DD2 just turned 2 and is completely dry. There seems to be so much competition over who is trained first, but does it really matter? I think it is just hit and miss at this age, some do and some don't. Sorry couldn't be more helpful, just be grateful you can still get round supermarket without three pit stops!

Try ECing...click here

Flibbertyjibbet · 01/10/2007 20:25

EC-ing is for much younger babies. Why would you want to learn how to make hissing noises to encourage a two year old to wee when you want her to? You just tell her and she can tell you when she wants a wee!
Kasdie, don't be put off by not many replies, if you click on 'topic list' at the top of this page, then go to 'Being a parent' section then 'nappies, potty training etc' there will be tons of threads all about it and you should be able to get lots of tips. Thats what I did last year.
Good luck.

There is another PTing thread on the go at the moment, so this may be why there are less replies on here. Have a look at that one too to see the advice there. Although the poster's child is only 14 months, most of the advice and ideas are relevant to any child ready for potty training.

Not sure your little one is ready yet TBH. If you leave PTing proper for a while and try again every 4-6 weeks. When she is ready PTing should take a few days only. Much less hassle for you and her.

Do leave the potty laying around though and if she does use it, even for a dribble, praise and congratulate her loads. Little stickers are a great source of reward for most children this age.
