Weaning time advice

Hello all!

Soooo I understand that the general advice around weaning in the early weeks is that you give baby bottle first and then food.

But my LO likes to wake up, play, and have his bottle whilst falling asleep. If I offer it when he wakes up he will flat out refuse it, even if he hasn’t eaten for 9 hours overnight!

Anyway, he’s now having a bit of baby porridge when he wakes (which he loves), then sleepy bottle when he’s ready. As he sleeps straight after bottle, I can’t give it to him then and by the time he wakes we generally have things to do and I don’t want to rush him! He isn’t having any less milk than before.

Has anyone else weaned this way and did you find any disadvantages? Or does it totally not matter 🤷‍♀️

It doesn't really matter too much, especially if there's a bit of a gap between solids and milk. I think the issue is that lots of weaning foods (veg purées) can be quite filling for little tummies but low calorie. So if baby eats a lot, they might be too full to take their milk (which should be the main source of calories for some months yet).

That sounds fine. It doesn't matter much as long as you aren't cutting milk significantly. He should carry on having pretty much the same amount of milk for the next few months. And you fit food around that when it works in your daily rhythms.

Fantastic! Thank you ladies!

He’s still at the stage of just exploring and eating a little bit but didn’t want to make it part of our routine if it was wrong in some way.

Next week, veggies!
