Formula causing vomiting?

newmum1312 · 24/07/2020 14:09

I have a 2 week old who's mostly formula fed. Almost always after a feed she spits it back up, not just a small amount either. Could it be the formula and should I switch to something else?

Is she drinking it too fast? What flow teat are you using? Do you burp her part way through the feed?

I burp her 2-3 times during the feed. Using Mam 1 teats.

Might be a touch of reflux. How is she overall?

She's fine overall, she doesn't seem in pain or anything.

It’s worth trying a different brand. DD was BF to start with, then mix fed from 3 months. She had bad reflux (even when EBF) but some were far worse than others. She couldn’t tolerate Cow and Gate but was okay on Aptimil. If you find it’s with various different formulas you need to talk to your GP.

What are her bowel movements like?

How are you feeding her the bottle? Are you using the paced feeding method? We were advised to use paced feeding (youtube has excellent videos) as that mimics the breast rather than have baby down the bottle like you'd do as an adult.

Tbh I didn't realise that there were different ways to giving a bottle as I'd never really thought about it, but apparently there are!

Using paced feeding as advised by midwife. I'm not getting many dirty nappies, just wet. Last dirty nappy was over a day ago.

That's good then. I only gave one bottle of formula a day so don't know how different the wet/dirty nappies should be to bf, sorry, hopefully someone else can help but maybe try changing the formula and/or contacting your HV or midwife (if you've not been signed off) for advice?

Just to wade in from my experience. I always assumed my son was sicky. We were feeding him the SMA ready made formula stuff since birth (pretty much), then one day around 3 months he decides he didnt want it. I switched to SMA powdered formula because we were forced too by his refusal of the ready made stuff and he's way less sicky than before.

What brand milk are you using? Maybe try changing it?
Or the bottles? My ds was going through something like that and I changed bottle brand and it helped.
