Interfering Comments

Anyone else get annoyed if their mum or MIL makes comments? Especially like the comments as if they are speaking to baby. Like 'Are you not cold?' 'Will we give you water?' Or when i'm discussing weaning 'will we feed you custard'.
It is getting so annoying! Even if i reply, No she's fine, no you don't give babies water etc..I still find it annoying and patronising.

Babies can drink a littlt cooled previously-boiled water, especially if it is very hot weather.

Don't let it get to you. At least they are voicing these things, rather than doing them behind your back, as some people who start threads are reporting.

And don't forget, they did actually manage to bring up kids themselves, and although some of what they say may be outdated, there might come a time when you really need their support and advice.

Breast fed babies don’t need water.

Parents and PIL are being passive aggressive. Next time tell them you feel undermined when they say such things.

Yep I get this - you have to ignore it or it drives you insane! I’ve had “oooo mean mummy didn’t give you a lick of her ice cream” because I didn’t give my baby mr whippy and more recently “why didn’t you give her gravy with her mashed potatoes, no wonder she wouldn’t eat it” 🙄🙄🙄

It’s not worth the fight IMO so ignoring it keeps everyone happy!

Yeah i understand they have raised kids too and appreciate advice. But yeah it can really get to you. But i do say well i do it like this etc...but hate feeling patronised. But i think i just need to stick to my guns.

Yep. ALL the time.
The biggest mistake I made was not nipping it in the bud straight away.
I wish I had put my foot down right from the start.
